Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    OK.

    NOTHING is confirmed yet.

Trapattoni could still find his marbles.

Delaney could still fúck this up.

As I've said a hundred times, I will not believe the story until I see a manager beside Smarmy Bastard with some kind of Ireland flag or green shamrock held up.

Until I see definitive proof, I don't believe it.

I'm talking poking my finger into his side here. Bleeding hands type stuff.

Des, how could he **** it up now? He is a PR man, and Trapattoni wants the job, there is no basis for your pessimism.

there is no basis for your pessimism.
My basis for pessimism is that it's John Delaney.

    That's all I need.

Anyway, what makes you so sure it IS Trapattoni?

    A few newspaper reports? Rumours?

    Where is the evidence?

    As I said.

Not until I hear the FAI announce it, will I believe it.

    And neither should anyone else.

No, the reason Bazmo they were appointed is because they were ''football men''. Say what you want, but aside from Don Howe(who I don't know) Houghton and Givens were Irish Internationals. Didn't they ask Brady anyway?
You're off you're rocker if you think that Delaney wasn't trying to cover his backside by setting up the panel.

And as for "Football Men"??? What does the "F" stand for in FAI?
No "Football Men" available/qualified in the FAI to do the job? Do you not think that's a bit odd?

I don't get how a chief executive(is that was position he holds?) can be sacked over the appointment of a manager.

Delaney went for Staunton under the basis that it had worked for Germany and to a lesser extent Holland. Look at Slavan Bilic with Croatia! No management experience but his appointment just worked, he managed to get a team of decent/good players playing well.
You don't know how a chief executive can get sacked and then you say that he went for that "World Class" appointment Stan. Hmmm....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,103 ✭✭✭estebancambias

No, ok I accept defeat about calling Staunton a 'World Class' manager, but perhaps he meant it in a different context. He is not an idiot, he knows what the public think/will think.

perhaps he meant it in a different context.
What other context is there? Go on, explain that one to me, please.

Eeek!! Dub13 got there before me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,082 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Its a step, but we're not there yet.

Trapattoni was almost certainly leaving them anyway. He was closely linked with a role at West Ham according to Faubert last week, so regardless of what job he takes, he wasn't extending his contract with Salzburg.

Hopefully it'll be all official come this evening.

What? People are doubting it even though the club he is with has confirmed it?????

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

    RTE Radio reporting it too.

Still, nothing official from FAI, and until then...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,625 ✭✭✭✭BaZmO*

I wouldn't be as cynical as Des (I don't think anybody is! ;) ) But I'm not getting excited about it until it's been officially confirmed.

    Some quotes from Trapattoni.

Was contacted by the FAI 10 days ago.

    Then he rang Brady.

Brady told him to take it.

    He signed the contract yesterday.

He says Ireland shouldn't be regarded as a second division team, and have potential.

He mighht not be available for the Serbia Friendly in April as he is contracted to RBS until May.

    ....

    I believe it now. :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

If you have a radio near you (or the internet, I assume everyone here has access to the internet:p) tune to RTE1, they are giving this a fair bit of coverage in the One O'Clock news

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,082 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

    So far the only quote from Trapattoni is;
“Leaving the title as a farewell present to my Bulls is now my number one aim!”

Until something comes with ""'s around it saying I have accepted the role of Ireland manager, ill remain as i am which is optimistic and hopefull but still cautious. Been burned too many times with football where something seemed like a certainty only for it to not come to pass. Just ask DIC.

He is on the radio now, himself, saying he signed the contract.

    It's official.

So should we be praising the selection panel for not rushing into it and waiting for "the right man" yet?

Agreed, we need someone to come in and grab the team by the scruff of the neck and squeeze preformences that we are more than able to churn out, good times ahead indeed

Is John Delaney a genius? Are the three wise men due the Freedom of All Cities, Towns and Villages?

Funny though, the FAI really are an organisation of opposites.

Inexperienced ex Ireland player in the numero uno role with a extremely experienced international manger as second in command and pay them a pittance.
This way didn't work? Well we'll do the complete opposite this time.
We'll get an extremely experienced international manger in the numero uno role with an inexperienced ex Ireland player as second in command and pay them a fortune. Not complaining this time though!!
