Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just heard on the radio this morning that Brian Kerr has thrown his hat into the ring. Granted he was royally shafted after his last stint but there is no way in hell he's gonna be picked again.

    Go and get him now.

    Has to be done.

No feckin' head hunters. No waiting around.

Get the man in the job now.

Absolutely bang on the mark there.

Give him whatever contract will make him sign on the dotted line. No fannyin about with "consultants" only to sign Terry Phelan as manager on the fcukin cheap. Get him onboard now. It'll be an appointment thats 2 years to late as he should have got it last time round.

Now thats the way it should be done, Troussier never came into my mind, but if he is interested lets do want it take to get him as fast as possible.

Just an after thought what would people think of bring Brady in as Director of Youth Football ?.
His record and work for Arsenal Youth has been very good and speak's for itself.

What about Terry Venables? He will most likely be finished with England next month.

He has good experience too as an international manager and is supposedly an excellent coach. Some of his previous jobs haven't worked out for the best but on the plus side he is likely the only manager that we could get who has guided a team to the semi-finals of a major tournament. And he understands how to deal with the press.

I think he would be an interesting appointment.

I don't know about Troussier... something about him doesn't instill confidence in me. He seems like a bit of a mercenary to me.

Troussier - won the Asian Cup with Japan and then took them to the 2nd round of the 2002 WC (but they were at home and didn't have to qualify). Qualified for WC 98 with Nigeria, but they sacked him before the tournament and he eventually went there as Sth Africa's coach (they drew 2 and lost 1, going out in the 1st round).

Has never managed in a top european league or a european national team.

So, his record's not bad, but I don't agree we should rush out and offer him whatever he wants.

Not really that long, December 2004. Personally I wouldn't like to see him get the job though but not because he's been out of the game too long but more because I think he'd be sh1t.

Steve Coppell would be an energetic, inspiring and tactically astute young manager. Perhaps he might be a little too young but we need someone the players will actually respect and fight their hearts out for. The players must be made to play for the place and their country, the new manager will need to instill pride and optimism.

Steve Coppell is 52. He has been a manager since 1984.

    Voted somebody else.
That somebody else being Roy Hodgson
He is only signed up with Finland to the end of the Euro 2008 campaign and his International record with mediocre teams is excellent (Switzerland and Finland).

Was Troussier not overlooked the last 2 times? I wanted him in at the time Kerr got the job.

Similar idea to the previous thread so can be deleted if you want but with realistic/better options. I dont think anyone expects Steve McLaren, Roy Keane, Brian Kerr, Lawrie Sanchez or John Aldridge to be the next Irish manager although weve been shocked before. but how about these options:

Phillipe/Omar Troussier: who Internationally has managed South Africa, Morroco, Japan, Nigeria, the Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Qatar so i doubt anyone can question his experience at this level.

Roy Hodgsen: Current Finland boss, has gotten Switzerland to two major tournaments 94' & 96' aswell as haven coached at clubs such as Inter and Blackburn.

Foppe De Haan: Current dutch under 21 manager who had a succesful U-21 european championship in the Summer, also was at the helm at Heerenveen and guided them to the champions league for the first time in 93'.

Martin Jol: Former dutch International who coached at Roda JC Kerkrade
& RKC Waalwijk in Holland before becoming Spurs manager where he had a few relativley succesful years but now seems likely to be sacked

David O'Leary: Former Irish International, who has managed Aston Villa and Leeds. The latter he guided to a champions league semi-final with a very young squad. Hes the bookies favourite.

Liam Brady: a former Irish international who had a very succesful career including a spell at Juventus. Former manager of Brighton and Celtic although neither job was particularily succesful. He has been Head of Youth Development and Academy Director at Arsenal since 1996 and is also a regular football pundit for RTE.

Graeme Souness: Former Scottish international who has managed in 5 different countries at clubs such as Benfica, Liverpool, Galatasaray, Newcasstle and Rangers. He has also worked as a pundit on RTE

Terry Venables: Current England assistant manager and former England manager who also previously Internationally managed Austrailia and in club football had a number of Jobs including Barcalona and Spurs.

    Other: please specify

Personally I would love to see Liam Brady get the job, but he is right in saying that the first criteria for the next international manager is a proven track record. He probably would have been better off applying last time round when this wasn't an issue!

I think the candidates this time are pretty damn good compared to the last few years. There does seem to be some genuine interest in the job and obviously the wages will be that bit better.

I really don't think we could go too far wrong with any of the international specialists ie Hodgson or Troussier.

I've seen enough of Souness to know that everything he touches turns to crap, and he inevitably p1sses off a certain sect of players everywhere he goes ie bellamy, andy cole.

This would be my concern regarding Dave O leary too. I don't think there can be any doubts about the man's intelligence or motivation. But there is that lingering rumour that players often do not like him. I like him enough though and would in a way like to see an Irishman in the job given that he has the credentials.

Ideally though I would like to see Liam Brady. It was always said that Stan had the players respect, but I think that Brady would command a different level of respect. He has attained a kind of Elder Statesman/ Guru vibe over the years and he has held a very prestigious position as director of the youth acadamy at Arsenal for a number of years now. Obviously though he doesn't have the track record which is disappointing

Troussier's who I wanted to see get the job when Kerr was appointed and I think he'd do a great job for us. Hopefully the FAI's mysterious panel will have enough vision to go for someone like him.

In fairness, club management and international management are two very different things, so it's questionable how relevant Brady's previous managerial experiences would prove to be.

He wouldn't be my first choice, but I wouldn't be against his appointment. Head of Youth Development at Arsenal is a huge job, and on the evidence of Arsenal's first team, it's one he excels at. Given the amount of young talent coming through for us at the moment, and the need to build a team out of them, Brady could be the man.

Most will agree that he talks that most sense out of the RTE pundits - though that's not saying much at times! :)

Liam Brady would not cut it guys , please get that out of your heads there is no one denying that International management and club management are two different things but Liam Brady really was a failure as a Club manager. Liam Brady Tenure as Celtic's manager was one of the worst ever for the club and one of the most embarrassing defeats ever a 5-2 defeat on aggregate by Neuchatel Xamax in the 1991-92 UEFA Cup, He even signed Tony Cascarino as well for a record 1million POUND at the time. God i remember them days Please don't give this mane the job. There is no doubt that Liam Brady is a great youth coach , but how does that make him a international manager ?

    EDIT
My choice Top 3 in order.

    1.Martin Jol with Chris Haughton
    2. Chris Coleman
    3.Paul jewell

    Failing that David o Leary.

chris coleman should never be mentioned here again!

and Paul Jewell...........................what has he done? I dont understand why he keeps being mentioned. Sure why isnt George Burley,Neil Warnock and every other manager who got a team promoted mentioned. The only jobs Jewell is linked with is more crap premiership teams. Don't think your going to see the likes of Newcastle, Aston Villa. Spurs considering him.
