Music teacher with 5 years experience. Experience teaching from ages 4 - 60+. I teach most traditional instruments (fiddle, whistle, accordion, banjo, etc), classical piano (standard piano and piano through colour [for younger children and those who have difficulty with standard notation formats]). I also teach vocal traditional styles and can teach songs from the musicals. I also teach music theory as part of all lessons.

I have a BA in music (St. Patrick's College) and Diploma in Irish traditional music performance from the London College of Music. I have completed exams on all my main instruments and have competed at All Ireland level.

I believe in music being accessible to everyone. I give lessons in groups and individuals with the cost depending on the number in the group. €10 for individual and prices downward for groups.

Lesson times are flexible. PM for more info.

    Hi Everyone,

I started teaching in dublin last year and hoping to build on that again.

Here is a list of some of the musicians i have performed with to give an idea of experience of playing -

    TRAD GUITAR LESSONS, GALWAY

Guitarists often gain a bad reputation in trad sessions because they try to back tunes that they don't even know. This approach is known as 'winging it' and is not recommended!

Fortunately, there is a better way. :) It is not only possible to actually play the tunes on the guitar, but it is a lot of fun. And it is, without doubt, the best way to learn traditional tunes - even if you just want to know how to back them properly.

Whether you are a total beginner or a guitar player with an interest in traditional music, I can help you learn to play well-known jigs and reels.
    • Time signatures and rhythms of different types of tune
    • Scales, modes, keys and chords, and how they fit together
    • Various approaches to accompaniment
    • Alternative tunings: drop-D and DADGAD

I also offer beginners' mandolin and tenor banjo lessons, as well as tuition in other guitar styles such as fingerstyle, blues, ragtime and bluegrass, plus music theory, reading and ear training.

Please send me a private message or phone 086 3410372 for further details.

    Thanks,
    Pat
