Also, lets face it, when you get fit you don't get a certificate of achievement.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 615 ✭✭✭walt0r

I was going to retort but it would start a flame war, so I'll just leave it. The thread is doing that by itself

Normally that a mod edited the post,

who is waltor saying is a joke??

My achievements so to speak are going from being **** weak to
    102.5kg deadlift
    42,5kg bench
    25kg Overhead squat
    in about 8/9 months.

Nothing spectacular but i am pretty happy with them.

Whats with the attuide though?? I mean seriously a bit of light hearted discussion and all

I am juanveron45 never said I wasnt I lost my password and deleted the email that it was on

I admited I was out of very out of shape

    I am 280lbs and 29% bodyfat

    my BMI is 38

    Borderline gastric surgery is 40

If I was to get to 17% bodyfat without losing any muscle I would weigh 242lbs

At 6 ft tall and 242 my BMI would be 32.9 and I would be characterised as obese but clearly a guy of 17% bodyfat is not obese

Also I never said that people should mimick extreme athletes

I started off by saying that people underestimate the importance of protein in there diets and its important for everybody not just bodybuilders

As you so aptly pointed out the contribution of people to this forum varies significantly, just wondering if you felt that you yourself contribute little more than insults and i love titties remarks? As to be completely honest that is all i have seen of you in the posts i have read.

Can someone explain to me why it is recommended that we consume red meat sparingly? I have heard of this from other sources also.
Surely lean red meat is a great source of protein. I was reading about an american footballer before and he was speaking about how he was reducing the amount of red meat in his diet and I also heard how Roy Keane cut it out of his diet completely.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

It's due to fear of consuming the saturated fat in red meat mainly. However I personally don't have a problem with it, I think humans are pretty well adapted to eating saturated fats and heart disease etc are more a result of transfat intake and excessive sugar consumption.

I think it was more along the lines of... "Hey look guys, I know stuff too. Lets all slag the things that don't conform to our fitness goals so we can look really bada$$ and hardcore".

Hanley-This is why I said your were stiring ****.You slammed my post for no reason at all.

Tell me.What did I slag off?

You yourself should know as a powerlifter that the BMI index would probably cateogorise yourself as obese

    What are your stats? anyways?

Listen mate, no one seems to be levelling with you and I'm really not trying to personally abuse you, but it's time someone said something.

You're overweight. You're unfit. You've said so in the past, and you're on the SD/MA board asking for advice on martial arts for "bigger" people and admitting that you're a "serious lifter of pints" and that accounts for your size rather than any extreme muscle mass.

I would hazard a guess that your doctor was trying to shock you into changing your life for the better. Instead of getting the message, you've decided to jump on here and rail against the world. Why, it's the doctors who are stupid and old fashioned, it's not that you're overweight. To be honest, I sometimes get exasperrated at the lack of fitness knowledge in the average Irishman/woman and look to the Polish PE system (it's a school exam subject over there) and wish we had something similar. But the fact is, when it comes to obesity and, let's call a spade a spade, fat people, it doesn't take an ex-communist system to diagnose bad health.

You've been diagnosed. Instead of coming on here and trying to debunk BMI, you should go buy a dog and go for a walk. The first of many.

Oh god. I know I shouldn't, but here I go.

You slagged off the entire medical profession. Trust me, they know the difference between a 280lb guy who's got a serious amount of fat on him like you, and a 280lb bodybuilder with maybe 15-20% bodyfat.

I've already stated that BMI has me pegged as obese. Read back. No startling revelation there.

    My stats....

2006 IDFPA National Champ - 90kg teenage division
2007 IDFPA National Champ - 90kg junior division
2007 IPO National Champ - 90kg junior divison
2007 WDFPF World Champ - 100kg junior division
2008 IDFPA National Champ - 100kg junior AND overall

In addition, I currently hold (to the best of my knowledge) 2 teen records and 4 junior records with the IDFPA and 4 junior records with the IPO. I'm won the Hercules Gym (that's the country's no. 1 powerlifting gym) lifter of the year for '07.

I weigh 99kg at the mo with best lifts of a 245kg squat, 180kg bench and 250kg deadlift. My bodyfat% floats between 16 and 18%.

    Want pics?

    Now, what are your stats?
