Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm looking over the Arrian at the moment, and I'm trying to remember: in one of alexander's battles, it went on for absolutely ages, but he won in the end because when the locals were driven back into the city, they didn't close the gate behind them, allowing Alexander's men into the city... Does anyone remember which battle it was?

That doesn't sound very familiar, but you could be thinking of Thebes. It wasn't a case of the Thebans simply forgetting to close the gates, though. They were kinda being driven back into the city by Perdiccas' and Alexander's overwhelming forces. You'll find it in Book One.

And in the battle at Sangala (Book Five), Ptolemy's men invaded when the Indians opened the gates.
