Any advice please, looking to introduce Air rifle to our club range.

What should the club buy for beginners.
What sort of prices are they.
What range are they fired at.
Is there a bench rest Air Rifle discipline.
Is there second hand Air Rifles available.

    Help and advice please.

Secretary to Dublin Target Sports Club.

I suppose a lot of it boils down to what sort of Air Rifle you want to shoot. If it's the 10m olympic stuff, your requirements will be much different from setting up a field-target range. 10m olympic style is the most common competitive discipline in the country with the two college clubs, WTSC, RRPC and a few others doing it to varying levels. It can be very clinical (and difficult), and IMHO, maybe not the best way to get people into shooting. If you look at something like field target, it could be more appealing as there's large variety in terms of target sizes, ranges, positions etc.

There's plenty on here that shoot 10m rifle at a high level and can speak to this much better than I can.

yes you can pick up secondhand spring and precharged rifles if you don't want to spend too much i'd go with with of the air arms , theoben,or falcon pcp models should get one for 500euro but then you will have to buy a bottle to charge it , which will be another couple of hundred .the other possibility is to buy a spring rifle some of which are recoil-less such as the diana 54 airking its a bit of a beast(heavy) but from the benchrest will do a good job . spring powered airguns like the popular breakbarrel type tend to jump when rested on a solid surface so if the gun is held differently each time , the point of impact is gonna change and it ll seem the gun is in accurate. thats my experience anyway.

targets in airguns shooting are usually anywhere between 20-55 yards the knock down type bein popular . also .177 is used more than .22 as its flatter shooting and faster

    Unfortunately, college regulations prohibit this.

However, there is a match on in UCD next Sunday where you can see 10m air rifle in action. You will also be able to talk to people with a lot more knowledge then me!

Where "next Sunday" means Sunday 17/02. The real "next Sunday" (the 10th) there is a 25yd .22 match in Rathdrum.
