Sony Ericsson PC Suite

I have my K800i connected to the laptop via USB cable. When I open up the Sony Ericsson PC suite, and connect the USB, It tells me that I have the phone connected (top pic).

When i click on the 'file manager' icon, it brings me into a sub-menu (bottom pic) where it tells me that my phone is not connected., and when I click on the 'How to connect' icon on the left, it says 'a connected phone has been found'

I've tried un- and then re-installing the software but the same thing keeps happening. My phone is charging through the cable, so it's not that, and I'm at a loss as to what is going on.

When I first connect the phone to the laptop, my phone gives me the option of going into 'phone mode' or 'file transfer mode'. I chose the latter option, as that's what I'm trying to do but when i go to the PC suite, and then click on 'file manager' icon, it tells me that I can only connect to 3 out of the 5 icons in the top pic (the bottom 3) and not the other two.

    Anybody any ideas?

Try using phone mode, when I choose file transfer it just shows the phone as a disk drive(and my sd card as a second removable disk drive).

Never bothered with the PC suite.

Use FLOAT, it'll let you backup texts, move file, loads of other stuff etc...

I had an issue like this earlier with a Blackberry and this is how I fixed it - might not be the same for you but worth a shot.
Disconnect the phone from the cable and turn it off completely.
Close and shut down the PC Suite software.
Turn back on the phone, and connect it to the cable.
Start up the PC Suite software.

    See if it connects now.
Dunno why this worked for the blackberry earlier
