    G'day there folks.

Just joined the boards and am trying to get a handle on "ALL THINGS GREYSTONES" before September.

Hubby and I are house sitting there over September/October and would love as much info as possible on the town, places to go/see and anything else you care to throw in.

Look forward to hearing from you...

    Cheers..
    Starsie

Sounds good in theory but ever hear of a Irish Summer? RAIN!!! :D

;);) Rain.. in Ireland.. in SUMMER????? Never! :p

Lol.. I am Aussie.. I can make a BBQ in an igloo if it needs be.

Oh well if worse comes to worse, a good fish and chips or some good Indian food will solve the problem.

Rain would be a welcome change wether it be Summer or Winter. Been in a drought here WAY too long.

<<< Packs a raincoat and gumboots ** just in case**

I had a few nice BBQs last summer. I got a cheap one in Tescos supermarket (which is 5minute drive from Charlesland).

If you like the outdoors like most Aussies there's a great walk you can do. It's called the Cliff walk and takes about an hour or so. Stunning scenery and great exercise.

Bray has a few pubs with beer gardens on the seafront. Again only a stop away on the local train (DART).

VB, Tooheys and Coopers are all available in the in O'Briens off licence in the village. Aswell as all of your favourite fine Aussie wines *hic.

Vegimite is available in the Superquinn in Charlesland.

You won't be the only Aussie around the place, I've got one living with me at the moment and another living next door (Hammie I might be closer than you think  -lol)

Can't think of anything else right now. This is a great place to ask questions. People are helpful here and apart from the odd virtual shouting match the Greystones forum is a great place to get talking to people.

    Ill be in touch...

Indian! Now you are in luck there. We have Irelands best Indian Takeaway (Indian Spice) and an award winning restaurant (Chakra) with a good early bird menu.

Yes, please get out of my back garden;)

 Lol Hammie and Ian. You are both way funny.. Love it!!

Hubby and I ALWAYS make sure we pack enough Vegimite in Squeezy tubes when we travel that Customs looks at us like we are trafficking something.....lol

The walk sounds beautiiful!! We're looking forward to seeing the Waterfall we have heard about also.

As for finding Aussies in the Garden....... I was hoping for a Leprechaun or 2. Oh well back to the old drawing board I guess. :(

Take care, and hugs to you all.

    Starsie and Co.

    Is this thread for real??

Greystones has a lot going for it but it isnt a patch on Oz. Thank your lucky stars you are only house sitting.

After 2 months, of Champagne Henries, Weekend SUV Mums, RTE, Cold, Rain, Wind, RTE and Greedy cnuts wittering on about how their house is going down in price, you will be rowing back to Oz post haste.

Throw yourself on the Barbie because all the Shrimp has been shipped to France because the Irish only like Indian food.

Good Morning Bertie.. Well Morning here anyhoo...

Glad to see theres more then one perspective on Greystones.
Dont think that Aus is much different in places.
Except here its days on end of stinking heat.. SUV Mums daily as opposed to weekends.. Rising Mortgages that no one can afford,... racisim and lo and behold, we complain about OUR seafood here as 90% of it gets shipped overseas for export.

Theres always 2 sides to any coin.

At the end of the day I have been to much worse places and since we will only be visiting, I look forward to ALL the experiences we shall have in Ireland.

Lifes an adventure tis it not?

    That's not particularly helpful BertieHernia.

Whatever about throwing shrimps on the barbie there is one poster here who needs to throw themselves on a boat out of here. Unfortunately some Irish find pleasure in having a gripe and have lost control of their negativity entirely. The world is what you make it.

Here is the waterfall that was mentioned, just a short drive up the road from Greystones...

and some pics from the cliff walk...

Absolutely Starsie. Having spent a long time out there, I can vouch that Australia is a nice place and having spent a fair ammount of time here I can vouch same. As Ian says some people will always find the negative side of everything. If I get abducted by any SUV weekend, champagne sipping mums; I'll send you all a postcard.
You'll have a great time here. It's a great country.

Well hush my mouth for having an opinion.

Considering I am a Third Generation Greystonian I think I can comment.

Starsie, give me a pm when you are over, we can organise a traditional south beach night bbq. Firepit, beers, Farrellys Steaks (totally the best meat in Wicklow).

Hubby and I appreciate everyones kindness.

Hammie... If you gets abducted.. make sure you get pics!! ** big grins**

Take care all and I hope you have a great sleep.

    Hi Starsie,

I am currently living in Melbourne but, I am moving back to Charlesland in June. I have been here since 2005, but, now that we have increased our family (4 week old baby boy) we have decided to give home another chance.

I hope to be able to meet up with you guys when you come over. I will have been back a few months by then so should have a good idea of what is going on.

There have been some stinker hot days this summer here in Vic haven't there?
