religious statues on o'connell street ?

has anyone seen the statue of jesus incased in a glass box near the bottom of o'connell st. ? i first noticed it around november and just last week i noticed another new statue (much bigger) of something like a bishop. neither have any marking or plaque. whats the story with these ? personally i think the one of jesus is…

from an aesthetic point of view this statue is totally out of place, I'd even go as far as saying that it just looks tacky!

maybe the taxi drivers - seeing as they lobbied to get it back - see it as protecting them from danger sort of a guardian angel - except jesus

it used to be a holy mary if thats up near the rank at the start of O'Connell Street. Many a drunken night spent leaning against her while waiting for a taxi!
