Watching laptop through TV

ok i got a s video cable so i could watch films from my laptop..but the telly in my room doesn't have an svideo port on it..just wondering is it possible to connect my laptop to my tv through my dvd player?? ive tried it but can't get it to come up on the tv so just wondering if it's possible to do.

Vga cable to Scart tv, should do it...

VGA cable only carries the picture though, you will have to get a another cable for the sound, usually a 1/8" (mini-headphone) to RCA cable.

Help needed!...I have my laptop connected to my TV via an RGB/VGA cable for the video and a composite (Red/white to Headphone Jack) cable for the audio. I can get video to work fine when i selct the RGB source on my TV & the audio works fine when i select the 'Composite' source on my TV...only problem is i cant get the two to work together. I have a brand new LG Plasma and a relatively new Toshiba Laptop.Ive tried changing a few sound settings on my laptop but still no joy...any ideas?
