Really need a broadband connection but don't want to burdensome cost of line rental costs. Unfortunately all other wireless options are either not available or else they're too poxy to be worth considering (I'm talking about IBB). So it really only leaves the mobile broadband packages and I was wondering if this would be worth waiting for over what's available now with the mobile operators...

Great so they make the current service so terrible that were now forced to fork out another €149 to improve it?

Will there be another Mega-Thread on boards concerned with this when it all goes pear-shaped?

It's simply the same service and alternate brand of Modem.

Like having eircom or BT DSL and simply swaping between Netgear and Linksys. Or netopia and ZyXel.

The make of modem won't make any difference. You might as well spray the E220 one black.

One thing it does say about this modem is that it has better signal reception. On 3's already overcrowded network, giving some users better reception will only make the whole thing worse.

It's not a scientific test. It's doubtful in such a size of package that there can be much difference in signal.

Unless you do a double blind test at lots of locations and using both simultaneously at both locations you can't tell as the signal level varies lots with how many people are making calls and using data and quite small movements.

Now that it's been launched has anyone had any experience of this modem yet?

It's the SERVICE, not the modem that limits the speed.
