Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Fabregas or did Arsenal pay a small compensation fee?

    Campbell for Arsenal as well

Gary McAllister wasn't bad. Jay Jay Okocha too.

anelka to arsenal from psg (although arsene had to pay a little compensation) so not sure if it qualifies
tal ben haim offered chelsea much needed central defensive cover on a free
fowler did a job for the half a season when he returned to the pool

Nicholas Anelka cost Arsenal £500,000 from PSG so he doesn't count. Definitely Sol Campbell for quality over a period of time.

    Michael Reiziger.
Boudewijn Zenden (Middlesborough not the pool)
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at boro too.

    Gary Mac did alright too.

If Gary McAllister was free then it's him without a doubt.

    Didi Hamann

Great keeper when he wants to be.

    |Considering how much of an impact he's made at Portsmouth I'd almost say Campbell there instead

Yes. He has been relentlessly solid for City. I was sorry to see him go tbh as he was brilliant for his entire spell at Liverpool. There were many games where he held fort while all around him were rubbish. A great player.

Have to agree with Sol Cambell.

He may be quite clearly insane but hes a good head the ball centre half :p

Didi Hamann wasn't a free signing. Went to Bolton on a free, but Man City paid a fee for him.

Same here, where did 3.5m emerge from. I thought it was for a few 100k or something?

Voronin has been the best for Manu, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Blackburn, Aston Villa, Luton, Havant & Waterlouville.

I think Sol Campbell for either his move to Arsenal or Pompey, to think a player like that has had two free transfers.

Sylvain Distin has been great as well, he has really struck up a good partnership with Sol and was a free.

In terms of what a player would have cost, then Ballack must be up there, Chelsea would have had to fork out £20m for him if he was in contract.

Also, does Gallas count as a free as he was a part payment for Ashley Cole. I would certainly say Arsenal got the better part of the deal anyway!!
