Im getting an upgrade kit from Komplette, but how does it work? I have a hdd with windows xp installed on it, i have the product key( no disc), Is it simply a matter of connecting up the HDD to the new motherboard and Performing some kind of system recovery to find the O.S.?

The motherboard might be a bit picky and you might have to install XP again but you have the code so thats the main thing! If you cant get a disk off anyone to use you could "accuire" a "copy" amd use your serial key, ive done this heaps of times when I had my old Advent desktop.

But then again it might work and you wont have to do anything!

I didnt know dabs did kits , do they ?

The beauty of the komplett upgrade kits is that it saves you a lot of research and flapping around trying to make sure your parts are compatible. Thats why komplett still get my business. In any case , with a motherboard processor and ram , it doesnt work out that much cheaper from dabs.

The shipping is expensive from komplett , but it gets to you in a couple of days. Dabs can take weeks and that seriously annoys me. The security thing is pretty bad too , I have an account there , and my last order with them was held up for almost a week with them looking for Id and so on.

To the OP. You may have some driver issues as the previous install is going to have all the old motherboard drivers and so on. But with any luck it will still boot and you can go to device manager and sort them out yourself.

In some cases though , the OS will not boot due to the driver issue and you'll have to do a re-install.
