Does anyone know if there are any slot car racing clubs in Ireland. Heard there may be a small group of racers in the Dublin area.

If anyone has any info be much appreciated.

Is that like scalextric? Or is a bit more specialized? Read a magazine once with a big competition in England.

Yeh Scaletrix is one of the better known slot car manufacturers. England and Spain are apparently were racing is most popular.

Just wondering if anyone was racing them here in Ireland. Sure there are plenty of people with sets but just not using them.

    Hi Oisin,

just to let you know there is a group of about 10 of us who meet every second Thursday to race slot cars. We currently use 3 different tracks (in each others houses) although 2 of the group also have tracks (which are currently under repair!).

New racers are welcome indeed (too few of us out there it seems!).

Send me a PM if you need more info and especially if you would be interested in coming along to a race night.

I too would love to get into Scalextric :) I've an 8 year old who seems to be a little interested, and an excuse for me! :P I'd like to find out more about the different scales and tracks (analog/digital) and where to get the stuff in Ireland. I've googled clubs, but there doesn't seem to be any

Good to hear from another keen prospective slot car racer!

I've 4 kids myself and they love playing with the slot track too, although ultimately the eldest (he is 10) prefers his video games!

I'll send you a PM with my contact details and if you are up in Dublin with time to spare you would be welcome to meet up and try out some slot car racing.

Marks Models on Hawkins St (near the Dept of Health) and Hamley's in the Dundrum Shopping Centre are the only two places that come to mind that stock most of the scalextric range.

As for clubs, unfortunately there are none really apart from our small group. However we take the racing fairly seriously but ultimately it's just a bit of fun!

Who knows, if a few more racers come out of the woodwork in the West then there would be a good excuse for home and away racing!

I've seen that track before on some of the slot car forums.

An amazing piece of work especially the scratch built suspension bridge. Interesting to see it in a Dublin paper!

Some of the forums full of neat stuff like this track include:

    http://www.slotcarillustrated.com/

    http://www.slotforum.com

    http://www.auslot.com

    and my favourite:

    http://www.oldslotracer.com/

My own track is not to the standard of this one, but is made by the same method, lanes cut with a router into sheets of MDF which allow you to totally customise the layout to the space you have (never enough of course!).
