i notice a lot of these stories involve gypsies and whatnot making repeat attempts at robbery. why aren't they being deported?

They do in some cases but not often enough.
I heard those gypsies on the roundabout are back in Ireland since their deportation.

I seen so many Roma vs ATM threads now but hey, anything to keep people aware I guess. And they're not just in the East, we have had some incidents here in the West too.

Girl (13) on ATM scam charges

    By Tom Tuite
    Wednesday May 02 2007

A 13-YEAR-old girl, facing nine theft charges over an alleged ATM machine scam, has been remanded on continuing bail pending directions from the DPP.

The Romanian girl, who lives in west Dublin, arrived in Ireland just over three months ago and in that time has been the subject of a number of arrests for stealing money from people at ATMs. She had been charged at the Dublin Children's Court with nine counts of theft of €200 from people at ATMs in Dublin city centre.

These alleged offences happened at bank machines on O'Connell Street, Grafton Street and at Stephen's Green, between February 20 and March 10 last.

On April 3 last the girl had been further charged with two more offences, for stealing €200 from a person on O'Connell Street, on February 14 last, and the same amount from another at Grafton Street, on March 9 last. Judge Bryan Smyth remanded her on bail until June 12. The bail has strict conditions stating that she must not loiter near any ATM, and that she must obey a curfew between 8pm and 8am daily.
    The West indeed. :)

Fear of being seen as racists I'd imagine.

I am very surprised she is still alive, I would have thought she would have been kicked to death by now, wonders never cease.

    What were you up for?
    Extortion, kidnapping and bribery.

Right I will have a go of that after work. Has anyone got a lend of purple velvet skirt and a some clogs?

It may not be rocket science but it would be hard to do with only one person.
    Not really that hard.
Just wait for the money to come out and then grab it.
Push the victim out of the way.

They're not actually romainians they're roma gypsies
    Romainians hate them too
Scum is all they are in my opinion

Funnily enough, the crowd I saw had a Romanian translator present when they were up in front of the judge.
They also spoke English to their skanger buddies.

Can they not be ejected forthwith? Can they be made persona non grata or some other thing which was used for ejecting foreign representatives when they fell out of favour?

I blame the Gov and the legal system for making us easy pickings.
They are sacrificing our safety and security for the perception of political correctness. Which is of course Politically and morally incorrect.

It's tradition for these people to beg and not do a tap of work, nothing our government can do about it :D

It's possible to make removal orders against them, that's how they got sent back to Romania last time. Can only deport someone to a place where there is a risk they will suffer persecution, which isn't Romania anymore. The new Immigration Bill will make it easier to remove people who have no entitlement to be here.

Whatever about being shoved out of the way at the last minute you deserve to get your money stolen if you're able to be distracted by someone for as long as it takes to withdraw money.

The claim by people here is that they distract the person and press the button to get €50 out, then take it.

With the likes of an AIB machine they'd have to ask for the money, say whether they want a reciept or not, wait for the card to come out, take the card, then wait for the money to come out and take the money.

Each time you press a button it beeps. When the card comes out it beeps. When the cash comes out it beeps. And there's a few seconds between all of those things happening no matter how quickly you react to the prompts. All it all you'd need to be distracted for 10-15 seconds for that scam to work.

Just doesn't seem plausible to me at all.

I can never understand begging at ATMs..

Designed to make you guilty about your feckless materialism, although you're right: the last place you would start fumbling for change is at an ATM. Most people just want to get their money and scoot.

They are roma gypsies- effectively the travellers of Eastern Europe, although the majority of them do appear to hale from Romania (or at least they carry Romania passports). Most Romanians I've met (through my job) are hard working decent people, it's the gypsies that (from my observation's) give these decent people a bad name.

There are a few other boardsies in the same line of work as me and have encountered the same problems.

Ah that explains the brail pads on the AIB drive through in Cabinteely.

Just a general comment about bail - goes for home grown scum too. If you are on bail then you should pretty clued up that they are on to you and if you don't change your behaviour under such circumstances the you shouldn't expect anyone to believe you have any remorse ...
my simple proposal is any crimes commited while on bail similar to pervious ones or those you are on trial for, would never be concurrently sentenced. So any crime while on bail means extra time.

I thought they were repatriated, not deported. On the grounds that its not illegal for them to be in Ireland (as EU citizens) therefore deportation doesn't enter into it? I could be wrong.

Maybe that was it either way the taxpayers are keeping them in houses while they do no work only steal, The same can be said for our "home grown" scum.

I thought the Minister for Justice made some order barring them from coming back into Ireland

Just need a few thousand more f*cked home in the hull of some oil tanker now and Ireland will be a better place

Then we'll start on the kn*ckers

Romanians are generally ordinary decent people

Roma Gypsies (from all of Eastern Europe but mostly Romania) are the problem
