    Good jesus.

Mohammed, actually, I believe.:D Or I would, if I wasn't an "Infidel". RON PAUL #1.

I remember, out of pure curiosity, I attended a meeting being held in one of the smaller rooms of the Arts faculty around 6 years ago, Terry whatshisface and pals were hosting a meeting on the Black Panthers.

Aine whatsherface {the loo la from Limerick} was due to speak in UCD in the near future and some German guy {replete with Russian peasant shirt, socialist hat and tunic} was babbling on about how she shouldn't be allowed in the door.

I disagreed then and I disagree now. Democracy, one way or the other, cannot subject itself to double standards. There cannot be one standard for those who fit the bill and are deemed "acceptable" and another for those who do not. This is not the way.

]Quoting this just because it needs to be quoted and I laughed at it..

Ron Paul wants to clamp down on illegal immigration, Get out of Iraq, restore the dollar, shut down the Fed get the US Govt OFF the peoples back and lower taxes. Whats so laughable about that? The man is an intellectual and its a pity he won't get the chance to stand off versus Billary or Osama. You haven't seen ownage in a debate until you've seen Ron Paul debate on the economy. Too bad Osama is offering trillions of much needed American dollars to Americas sworn enemy as "Aid". How ironic that it is ultimately the Latin vote of California that will return McCain to the Oval Office and not Brahim Osama. How ironic that Le Pen isn't welcome in UCD but the likes of Bill Clinton is. When was the last time Le Pen organised a firestorm over Belgrade. Never, thats when.

    Anytime you like.

The bottom line is we all have reservations about someone- and not liking them is not enough. I could argue that Bill Clinton is far less deserving of our welcomes than Le Pen. The truth of the matter is that they all have to be judged by the same standards. "Double Standards", by their own definition, are oxymorons. If there are two, then there is NO STANDARD. And UCD should have a standard. Kicking up a fuss over Le Pen, simply because he is Le Pen, is not the Standard.

As a member of the Socialist party in Ucd when we heard that Jean Marie Le Pen had been invited to speak in UCD we set up a stall in Arts with a petition to oppose his visit and to raise awarness in students why racism, xenophobia and facism should be opposed in all its forms.
I was suprised with the huge support we got particularly from overseas students studying in UCD.Many French students told us they were disgusted he was invited by Law soc as he wouldnt be coming to UCD to engage in intellectual debate,he'd be coming to recruit new members and instill racist ideas.
For me the most heinous thing about Le pens invitation was how it was so abused by the Irish media to smear the No to Lisbon campaign.
In all of the national papers Le pen was described as' holocaust denier and opposer to the Lisbon treaty'!As if the two were both evilly equated! It seems Le pen has just been used as a pawn by the right wing wannabe hacks in Law soc to discredit those opposing the treaty.

Le Pen has absolutely nothing to do with the L&H. He was invited over by Lawspc, to take part in a Lawsoc debate. Not the L&H.

Like I said, what need of details, what harm is a little defamation, in the overall context of this righteous war against Le Pen.

Hah hah hah, that's absolutely hilarious. Do you know the people involved in inviting him over or are you just assuming they're right wing?

As about hilarious as a law soc "comedy" debate.
The mere fact that they invited Le pen to 'debate' the Lisbon treaty just shows Law soc for what it is, a bunch of self important conformist yuppies who care nothing for supposed freedom of speech and just crave publicity.
If they really cared about actual serious debate on the Lisbon treaty why didnt they invite Patricia Mc Kenna or Joe Higgins to debate instead of a controversial fascist french man.
