Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Business phone advice

I thought I would submit to a higher knowledge base as I am getting more confused as I look at this. I currently have two phones, one for everyday business and one for private use when I am away or holidays. The everyday one is an SE P990i and I have no problems with it. I have approx 6 POP3 mail accounts that I regularly check. 800 contacts or so and always sync to Outlook.

I want to change the private one, currently SE W800i as it cannot cope with the contacts database. It is also not 3G or Quad Band.

I am looking for suggestions for a replacement. Top of the list is the E51 at the moment but I am not sure. I like the Samsung U range as they are small but I don't think they have enough internal memory.

This phone must be small, light, work all over the world, high speed data is a must and must be capable of handling multiple email accounts and contacts. Camera, MP3 etc is not a priority.

    Any suggestions welcome.

If your happy with the p990i then how about going for a Sony Ericsson p1i? Its going to be available (fingers crossed) this month on o2. We've got the pricing in, so the handsets should follow soon.

would any one like to guess what the p1 will cost on o2?

I have been considering changing the P990i for a P1i. I have one gripe with most of the operators and its relevent particularly to the smart phones - I hate they way they brand them. Really bugs me when I can't get a firmware update as I have to wait for "their" version.

As for the P1 - I'd expect to pay sub €200.00 for it, reading reviews it sounds good but I am not convinced its a huge jump from the 990 in terms of capability. The 990 is running solid with no hangups or issues at the moment but will the P1 be as reliable out of the box?

This still leaves me looking for a small, capable handset that I can slip into a pocket without bringing the P with me but that can do all the bits and pieces I need. It can be a little fiddlier to use as its will not be in full time use, don't need the full keyboard or touchscreen either but need all the contacts and email accounts.

Maybe I'm dreaming but it seems that the multimedia stuff has taken over in terms of availability and that a good business phone is harder to find.

If anything, stability should be fine out of the box. Haven't heard any major issues with the handset, i'm also a p990i iser. Main improvements look to be in the upgraded aomunt of ram available which should lead to bet.ter stability when multitasking. Generally speaking o2 do not heavily brand their handsets like vodafone do .
Still, if you must have the latest then theres always wotanserver.

I have played with the P1 and its definitely tidier than the 990 but I have to say that the abuse I have given the 990, drops on concrete, getting it wet and general mishandling - I can't fault it. Plus I really like the normal keypad to dial a number, I have big fat fingers - genetic failure.

Just looking at that SE X1 now but its anybodies guess when that will arrive if ever?

Maybe something like a Nokia E61i is what you are looking for. I use the E61 and it performs really well. Not to big either but it is wide. Be prepared for people calling it a brick. Also has WIFI too. Worth a look i'd say

I have to agree here, the E61 is a very good phone with great battery life.

Thanks, I will check out the E61 - any thoughts on the E51. I am being offered it for €109 or so. Looks nice, well spec'd and handy size for a pocket.

Just wondering where you can get the E51 for that price? Are they available under contract yet?

tibrok - thats through our O2 supplier and O2 account manager. Its a Platinum upgrade and ex vat, gold is 125. I assume they are available as I wasn't quoted any leadtimes.

I know we are classed as a very high user so maybe that has something to do with it

Thanks for that. As it happened I came across an advert at the weekend showing it was available for €107+vat from O2. Rang them about it and while it is up on their system there doesn't seem to be any in stock.

It seems to be just a case of wait and see when stock becomes available.

I saw an O2 Business brochure today with the Indo, and it lists the E51 at €107 ex. VAT.

That would make it ~€129 inc. VAT, so hopefully we'll see it in the next week or two on pre-pay for personal customers.

Got an E51 today, added my comments to this thread as I thought it would be easier for anyone interested in the E51 specifically
