Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How do you get extra bandwidth?

What do you do to squeeze that extra bit of bandwidth out of your connection?

Gold plated network cables? Are they any good?

Fancy compression software? Does it actually work?

    Tin cans for wifi?

I have a router which uses zebra to optimise ip traffic against throttling attempts - it's got a whole bunch of 802.11 cards connected to 14dB antennas on auto tracking mounts

so I can leech off any open wifi connection within a five mile radius

am working on a tower which will have a 1Gb laser link back home, the trick is putting in the radio link HEANET use ...

With "Gold plated cables" you are guaranteed more noise unless the sockets are also gold plated.
reason a - thermocouple effect between dissimilar metals
reason b - electrolytic corrosion between dissimilar metals

The industrial / scientific / medical community don't use gold plated contacts for area's where there is no corrosion risk. And these are they guys who will spend top dollar to get better performance.

Compression - has to be done at the other end first
you can't compress multimedia all you can do is re-encode at a lower resolution
    7zip wipes winzip btw

Even if you did squeeze extra bandwidth on your end your ISP still throttles your bandwidth on their end. Even if there was some magic software that compresses info for you I can't imagine it would make a huge difference.

You want more bandwidth, pay for it.
