Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Oh God yes!! I'd take Fionn Davenport over him any day. That just says it all really!

    Diarmaid Ferriter.

Good to see them giving an opportunity to someone who really needs it.

Anybody having trouble with reception in the south kildare area.. I can only assume that RTE have given up competing with NT and have invested in a signal jammer.

Turns out it was the big metal sheet I leaned against the side of the house.. :o

Found Diarmuid Ferriter very uninspiring today. Normally like him on the radio when he is on as a guest. Didn't think he was good holding down a full programme.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,060 ✭✭✭✭Snake Plisken

found your man Diarmuid boring as hell had to switch over as I was worried I'd fall asleep at the wheel listening to him bring back Mr Davenport who is a better replacement for Sean.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,351 ✭✭✭✭Harry Angstrom

Who decides on these guest presenters?? From Diarmuid Ferriter standing in for Moncrieff to CIE man standing in for George Hook at times. It's mad.

I assume it was down to:
    a) Who will do it for free
    b) Who has an ego sufficient to think they can do it.

Hosting a radio/tv radio show seems like a piece of piss, something any articulate and knowledgeable person could do, but when someone who hasn't got the knack is put in the chair completely disproves that. I remember listening to Eddie Hobbs filling in for George Hook once and he was similarly unimpressive.

Eddie Hobbs?! He is barely articulate as a guest.

Ah here! There isn't much life in Diarmuid Ferriter but I wouldn't call him a big metal sheet leaning against a wall......

He's OK, he might have grown into it a bit more by Friday. If not, who cares - he's just filling in for a week.

Fionn Davenport was filling in for Tom Dunne today, so that kept him busy!

    gotta give it to newstalk.

first to let me know rob heffernan won gold just now in speed walking with actual decent coverage leading up to it.

congratulations to the guy, from coming 4th in london to this must be great for the guy.

Will join you in giving them the kudos. Being able to listen to live coverage was great.

Gilroy and Molloy will have a field day... Pouring over the psychology of it..."did the 4th place at the Olympics play on your mind" etc etc ad nauseum

Yes, on second thoughts, I thought he was quite impressive interviewing that Jesus book guy, less exciteable and 'tabloid' in his approach than Sean would be, not feeling the need to spell out everything in block capitals. Probably he could make a decent host if he could focus on congenial subject matter.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,748 ✭✭✭✭Lovely Bloke

    that Jesus book guy,

I don't suppose anyone caught this person's name, or even the name of the book?

Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth by Reza Aslan

I thought this sort of demystifying was pretty much old hat by now, but apparently he got ambushed by some nut on Fox, turning him into the Edward Snowden of Biblical scholarship or something.

Jonathan Healy was all confused on the Lunchtime Show, interviewed Rob Heffernan wife Marian after 1 pm live from Moscow and then told her at the end that she" might want to get a bit of sleep, it's heading towards night time" Moscow is only two hours ahead of us.:D

Was listening to a bit of George and one doing the travel updates starting saying "Dort" for Dart and "Paurt" for Part.

    That's just pathetic.

Hook was on full form yesterday in the film review slot giving us an alternative version of history, Mary Queen of Scots and Mary I of England were the same person according to the King of Waffle.

Why do people go to the Off The Ball Roadshow if they don't want to listen to what's being said? If they want to chat they should just go down to their local pub. It was difficult enough hear Johnny Giles. Think I'll switch off now as it's only bound to get louder and rowdier.

Ya its a head wrecker alright. You could hear people sssshhhing them aswell and they were still roaring!

You would imagine they would have mics to drowned out most of the backgroumd noise.

Shushhhh Harry, I'm trying to hear Roddy.. :D

Have to agree though, I've never heard it this noisy at the roadshow.. You cant hear the guests..

From my experience of it (back in the McDevitt era) half the people are there for the show, and half are dragged along by their mates and don't have much interest in the show (lured by the free t-shirt and the possibility of a free pint).

As the evening goes on, the punters get more lubricated and talk louder.

Newstalk Sunday Show seems to have a different format to the standard Sunday morning gabfest today: was just Coleman and Eamon Delaney for the first half an hour. Anyone know if this is an ongoing thing?

    best case scenario: P45

worst case scenario: P45 and a comeback tour with that s*it band he was in

Was wondering that myself there doesn't seem to be any room in the weekday schedule for him. Maybe he'll move back to Today FM?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,907 ✭✭✭Badabing

No room at Today FM either other than weekends maybe, more likely go to Phanthom or 98FM

Anyone know whats going on with all the presenters on newstalk? Surely its not a coincidence they are all on holidays at the same time?

    Tom Dunne
    Sean Moncrief
    George Hook

all 3 shows have stand in presenters again today?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,197 ✭✭✭elvis jones

Thats been going on in Rte for years, nothing new.

I'd imagine they could all be on two weeks holidays before Pat Kenny starts and a rejig of the schedule.

Chris Donoghue was missing from Breakfast today.

(The proper lads are missing from OTB, too. But let's not get into that). :-D
