Great to hear Ivan back. I have to admit, i just think he's very funny.

heard chris mention early this morning something about the "many years" himself and Ivan have ahead of them together, and him needing to dust off his contract. don't think he's going anywhere or on to a norah casey show that was mentioned.

very good to have Ivan back, he slotted back in perfectly like he'd never left, love him or loath him he's certainly got talent for radio presenting and knows his stuff unlike his co host.

Yes it was nice to turn on Newstalk this morning and hear Ivan. I like him for some reason.
Couldn't stand Nora Casey, so much so that I opted to listen to Spin 103.8 in the mornings instead  The woman really irritates me.

I was watching the live stream and seeing Pat bob from side to side to his theme song was hilarious.

Turned back to Newstalk's breakfast to listen to Yeats again, but God, the guy on with him is appalling and very tabloid. Gonna have to find somewhere new again as Morning Ireland had become so dumbed down.

Thought Ivan did great this morning. Brilliant to be able to enjoy listening to the programme again

Does Ivan have to leave the studio when anything bank related is discussed?

    i hope not

He was hosting Vincent Brown's show last night, and he had to give a whole soliloquy at the start in which he promises he can be fair and impartial and the like, in accordance with BAI regulations :D

He's doing a good job on VB, I wish he'd take over that full time tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,245 ✭✭✭Mumha

I don't what Sean O'Rourke's show is like but am very happy with PK's show. it's all very smooth so far. The only thing that is making me move stations is at 12.30 when that tabloid sh1t Healy comes on, but I'm back in time for Moncrieff !

The thought of the Vincent Brown show being fair and impartial is quite unsettling...

They're both essentially picking up where Today with PK left off, plus you're getting a bonus extra half-hour of Pat, taking me up to when I usually knock off for lunch, so it's all good. If only RTE would move Sean back to 9 my morning listening would be totally sorted.

It'll be interesting to see how many listeners RTE lose to Newstalk, AND, how many go back for Ronan Collins .... not too many I suspect.

    have to be honest .

im VERY happy with things so far.

right now i can listen from when im gettin the bus at half seven in the morning right through till moncreif in the afternoon.

i havent even got to listen to o rourkes show yet.

IMO RTE's in trouble as theres no "filler" on newstalk now like they have with the john murray show.

I would kind of put 9 to 10 on NT Breakfast in this category, although perhaps under Ivan they will move away from some of the tabloidy stuff they have in this slot.

Didn't really like Tom Dunne at all. Not sure the show suited him. He spent the time talking about his kids, and discussed topics more often than not that revolved around kids, which gave him more time to talk about his own. He was getting free help! :)

I did like when he used to branch off and talk about music or a song he just played. He'd give a really nerdy/trainspotters type of comment on a member of the band. In fairness I think he would be good going back to a music show. He is quite knowledgeable about it, and seemed to check himself any time he wanted to go and talk about the Blue Nile!

I'm gonna miss all that snorting into the microphone.

They should have got rid of that Tormey fella as well.

Hopefully George Hook might stop fawning over Pat Kenny or maybe it's a requirement that Pat's Show is slipped into any On Air conversations on Newstalk.

Listening to Yates being welcomed back today really soured me on Newstalk. He made a broad assessment of how the country is now, which was basically just a naive economic Fine Gael party line. "The country has recovered in Dublin, but rural Ireland is still suffering". Let's not confuse a property market pull-out for a country.

He also hailed George Hook as the king of newstalk and the lynchpin of the station. I'd say this isn't really on the mark in reality. Hook's show is a Rush Limbaugh kind of thing and I'd bet most of newstalk's Moncrieff listenship run away from it like a burning building.

I have to admit, I thought maybe Kenny left RTE for Newstalk (for a lot less money) to have the freedom to espouse right-wing political views. Ivan Yates' weird uninformed-yet-still-has-an-opinion really confirmed it for me this morning. I'll be tuning newstalk out of my dial and deleting the apps.

I hope Moncrieff gets a gig on a less propogandistic platform.

Just remember to stick the tin-foil hat on, those right-wing political views are being transmitted straight into your head by the evil cabal!!!!

If you think Newstalk is right wing you clearly have no idea what right wing is. Go listen to some of the Republican radio stations in the US. Journalists in Ireland tend to come from a more liberal arts degree background and so anyone who came from outside that environment (e.g. Ivan as a TD and Pat as an Engineer) and dares to question some of the liberal policies of welfare etc automatically gets branded as the spawn of Hitler.

I suppose liking or disliking Ivan and his 'one of the boys' act is a matter of opinion...each to his own etc but is there anyone out there who can listen to McIntyre for a full 90 minutes commentating on a match? I love my football but he gives me s headache...

Listening to Global Village Dill on The Right Hook now is tempting me to throw the radio at the cat.

I hope Hookie puts up a decent challenge and picks her up on her bullshít.

The cat is hoping so too.

    Throwing radio's is racist.

Christ al-f***in-mighty. They just cut the end of A Boy Named Sue, so George could say thanks to the team etc. That was shocking!!

    sacrilege

how the hell can you give a song a long introduction, then cut out the climax of the actual song with a stupid voiceover

If you are one of the big-heads at O'BriansTalk radio no problem.

I was listening to Chris and Ivan this morning. Their bickering and obvious loathing of each other puts a total downer on proceedings.

Todays after nine segment was about telling fibs. They were both asked what their last fib was. Chris came up with a believable admission of dishonesty and Ivan told a fib in reply. "I don't remember" he said. Classy not. Anybody looking for a one size fits all mouthpiece need look no furthur. Ivans your man.

I have not heard Pat Kenny's show yet but the previews heard at 9:45 make it sound pretty dull.

When Pat left RTE I predicted O'BriansTalk's rating would soar. Now I'm not so sure.

Exactly what I was about to post! It's downright cringy listening to the two of them taking passive aggressive swipes at each other.

did anyone hear chris's attempt at an Oprah hand on the shoulder moment when discussing mental health with Ivan this morning?

"I just wanted to, I just wanted to ask you...Ivan are you ok?...all week but I didn't"

to which Ivan immediately dismissed very uncomfortably. I used think he was just s*ite, I'm starting to hate him with a passion. he's a complete bell end and needs to get off the radio for his own good as well as ours.

    Ivan to Chris:
"you've obviously never run a business" when Chris says Trap was paid too much.
Not sure if Ivan was taking the piss out of himself- it sounded more like he was making a serious point.

    Chris's laugh was telling.

This is annoying me on Pats show....

Why the hell does Pat keep say 'Ildi' instead of 'Aldi'??? Is it becasue he's never heard of it or has never set foot inside the store? its 'ALDI' ya plank.

Tom Dunne has confirmed some details of his new nightime show
He said it would be an "absolute pleasure" to return to night-time radio with the new 'Tom Dunne Show' starting on September 30.

Running four nights a week, the 10pm-midnight show is described as a 'GQ magazine on the radio' mixing popular culture in a way that will appeal equally to men and women.

"After interviewing so many people on morning radio with genuine heartache, it will be a relief to go back to playing music, to chat and then press a button hear music coming out," said Dunne.

And this quote indicates it will be music-heavy (quite sensibly)
A Newstalk spokesperson confirmed that despite their license to provide talk radio, there would be no limit as to the music played on the new show as it would be balanced out by other programmes across the schedule. -

    http://www.herald.ie/entertainment/music/pats-move-is-good-for-newstalk-tom-29577050.html

Hopefully it will be a better fit to his interests and talents than the mid morning show

Excellent news. Was genuinely worried there for a while that he was going to try and do another hard news show. Sticking to lite stuff should suit him better.

Splanc would be part of their Irish language programming requirement, so I assume The Green Room and McDavenfilth are gone. I feel a bit sorry for Orla Barry, she has been hanging on to a media career by her fingernails for quite a while now. Maybe she will be moved to the weekend schedule somewhere.
