Jonathon Healy is like a child on Christmas Eve with his questions on the minimum price for alcohol.

He really seems to think the move is going to eradicate alcoholism in this country.

id love to know his anti drink agenda? I really resent the idea that the government can decide how much the shop/supermarket/off license should charge me for a few cans or a bottle of wine. The way the anti drink nazis are going on youd swear were all pushing each other out of the way in a mad scramble to get to the drinks aisle in tesco for a truck load of dutch gold

anyone know if he's a recovering alcy? I find them to be the most righteous pack of know it all 'drink is evil' shower. although he may fall into the lesser ned flanders type bracket of those who had a baileys ice cream for dessert and knocked a few milk bottles over and think they've a serious issue

You need to realise that the country is in a state of chasis, and that the good people of Foxrock are demanding that something simply must be done. Taxing cheap booze is an obvious win politically....almost as good as giving the folks in Foxrock a medical card for their under fives. Almost.

Naturally Jonathan Healy agrees with the good folk of Foxrock :)

Re: the alcohol, I think it's largely because the anti-smoking bastards have gradually won their "battle to protect people's health" and now need something else to focus on. They realise that pushing against smoking much more might make them look like the bad guys, whereas if they turn their attention to drink, smoking will naturally decline due to the sanctions already imposed and they can focus on eradicating one more small pleasure out of life.

It always strikes me that none of these do gooders that stand up for the rights of "ethnic minorities" would ever dream of living beside them.

I see both sides of this argument.

OTOH, there is the "my type of drinking (bottle of wine in a fancy restaurant) is OK, yours (can of Dutch Gold in a park) is not". OTOH alcoholism, the scourge of this and many societies, does need to be tackled.

And BTW, after alcohol, obesity is next, starting with the unsuccessful suggestion that sugary drinks be taxed.

To understand the reasoning of our political class i'd have to paraphrase Homer Simpson: "Taxation, the cause of, and solution to all of Irelands problems!"

    That's not true.

How many halting sites are there between Foxrock & Dublin 2?

If the bleeding hearts meet a traveller / Roma you feel its entirely an accident.

Theyve already started on the obesity. Wonder what will be after obesity

They need to ditch it. It made me change stations. It's cringeworthy. I can't believe Shane Coleman didn't know how to pronounce the word "naturist", and he a journalist.

Chris v. Ivan Quiz is horribly brutal. Even Miriam is a better prospect, FFS!

    Absolutely.
Chris v. Ivan Quiz is horribly brutal. Even Miriam is a better prospect, FFS!
    And that's saying something!

I stumbled across it one morning and I thought "WTF is this sh1t"?

Would it be a cunning plan to make people switch off, perhaps? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,122 ✭✭✭Imhof Tank

The quiz is their answer to Have I Got News For You. About 10 years out of date.

Chris takes it seriously though, jumping in with the answers during the quick fire round, team mate unable to get a word in edgeways.

You'd think he was getting a salary bonus or something for each correct answer.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,766 ✭✭✭JM Skipton

The quiz, not one of their better ideas

I reckon the quiz is the lowly paid peasants Chris and Ivan conspiring to screw Pat Kennys audience by driving them away....

So looks like I'm the only person in the country that likes it then... :P

Sure it's cringey as hell, but I find something oddly entertaining about it that I can't quite put my finger on.

You're one of those people who insist a movie 'can be so bad it's good' aren't you???

Oh god no! Bad films are just bad films. I do tend to have weird tastes though, and genuinely like some films that are generally considered to be awful (prime examples being I like the Hitman and Max Payne movies and everyone else hates them... :o)

This inane chat between Hook, McIntyre and Coleman is making me think that Global Village isn't such a bad programme after all.

No, I actually enjoy the Friday right hook, but I am not too keen on Shane Coleman. He has got a touch of the "Fionn Davenportitis" syndrome.Dr Ciara Kelly or some other female guest would be a better regular guest.Too much testosterone as it is....:)

Dave McIntyre is the one who annoys me the most. He's definitely got a touch of Fionn Davenportitis.

Grand so, we can get rid of the pair of them.... right soh-ehd :)

Get Chris Donoghue and Jonathan Healy on it instead of McIntyre and Coleman....that would definitely be very good bad radio...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,122 ✭✭✭Imhof Tank

Yates and Kenny on with Hook would be the dream team

Superior quality banter between Ivan and Pat at handover times in the mornings IMO.

    This morning's was:

Ivan "So Pat, you made it back from Cork safely"

Pat "Yes Ivan, thanks for paying the ransom"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,122 ✭✭✭Imhof Tank

Breakfast Show guest Nora Owen was an absolute revelation today (in a good way) I thought. I have seen her on TV3 which hasn't been good. Sounded like maybe it was being back in Ivan's company and the thoughts of their old glory days in politics that got her mojo going again.

She dealt assuredly with questions about the naturist massage craze hitting Cork; whether pron, gambling or dating websites were most viewed in Leinster House etc. Chris adopting his best serious tone asked her - what if your local TD was contacting an escort online? (*gasp, shock, horror*) She just goes "So what? TDs need love too you know"

    Pretty classy

What was the number tattoo on her arm thing on Hooke earlier?

Dave McIntyre is the one who annoys me the most. He's definitely got a touch of Fionn Davenportitis.

Big opinionated loudmouth, he fancies himself as a current affairs host. He roars like a bullock when he commentates on sport for the station, often to the annoyance of his co com and listeners. You feel like punching your radio to the floor and kicking it to death when he starts bellowing.

He makes Newstalk feel even more low rent.

Brilliant idea! The other two could get Pat to loosen up, he's reportedly good craic away from the mike...

I actually listened to the first few minutes of Dil's programme last night on the way home from the Leinster game.
Off course, the main topic was the Roma case with Dil's introduction asking "is Ireland deeply prejudicial against the Roma people?"
    Quell surprise.

She then introduced someone from Pavee Point so I switched channels. No chance of a balanced story here.

First and last time I'll ever listen to that show.

EDIT: FFS, my ipad autocorrected "Roma" to "aroma".
I guess it must be racist!

Is Adrian Barry the new full time host of OTB on the weekend? Thought he did a very good job today in fairness. (I know he only really had to introduce the live matches and give some headlines in between, but still.)

Where do they get all the Americans for the Moncrieff show?
Mindless babble, promoting books that no one will read, talking crap about aliens or philosophy.
And all the time poor Sean has to listen to them, while he thinks about how many ums and ahhhs he'll use in the next sentence.
