    Good ol newstalk.

A balanced discussion on the referendum with no one on the panal against it.

Oh and Jim power telling us that reducing the countrys overdraft by a factor of 6 is "nothing" to lose with a were leaving the euro from another gobshyte thrown in for good measure.

They even just insulted people texting in as being " just the usual angry people " without actually reading out any texts !

Fuk me the irony of a show called talking point , which is meant to discuss spin , coming out with the propaganda here is enormous !

The only reason they won't get fined for this is the campaign doesn't "go live " till Monday .

    Shameful stuff

I blame you for the travesty that was this morning....

Interviewee: "This is a non-story, it's a relic from a previous time that couldn't be changed in already existing contracts."
    <five minutes pass>
Mick: "But surely this is something we saw in the good 'ole days and isn't appropriate now?"

There was another example as well but I can't think of it off the top of my head...

    Hi,
It's been discussed here before somewhere about Newstalk 30 cent text charge and is it a rip off.
I think so anyway and have added a post on Newstalk

    YourReport saying (very simply)
Charging people 30 cent to text your radio station is unfair. These people are contributing towards shows so I propose that you charge standard rates, like other radio stations.

    My post is here.

exactly what i thought, she was reading straight from a script. The scrubber accent on her and talking about 'transparency' and 'de cahlic religion' - she had been coached, probably to avoid her admitting that she didn't want her sprog going to a school full of foreign nationals. When asked a long winded question that she didn't have a scripted response for, her one word answer was 'No.' lol.

Christ, G Hook's interview with Billy Dee Williams, Lando Calorissian from "Empire Strikes back" et al is quite cringe inducing.

Off the Ball are probably the only show on Newstalk that read out comments from Twitter. Fair dues to them for doing it in fairness, rather than solely reading out texts.

I think most of them read out tweets. They do on Moncreiff and The Right Hook, anyway.

Maybe... haven't listened to Moncrief in a while, I just can't recall the breakfast show ever reading out anything or Tom Dunne...

Tom Dunne uses tweets a lot, so no one apart from the Morning Show, Tom Dunne, Moncrieff, Hook and Off the Ball read out tweets on Newstalk. (don't really listen to Lunchtime so can't comment).

Hmm, fair enough. Can't say I've ever really noticed Tom reading them out, except for when he had just started on Twitter ages ago, but I'll defer to ye're judgement.

"show me the money, show me the money"
    "big gun, big gun."

Is this what passes for interviewing by Butters O'Donoghue?

Did I just hear that terrible rubbish movie reviewer on Tom Dunnes show call the public 'Idiots'?

Jesus why do they have him on as the reviewer of movies? He never gets any of them right!
He said two weeks ago that 'The Avengers' was bad and not a box office hit, did he see the movie?

'Cabin in the Woods', he said it wasn't great, best movies I have seen this year!

there is loads more he gets very much wrong.

The majority are in fairness... :P

Well since the review is his opinion then it's not possible for him to "get it right" or wrong for that matter.

Chris seems to be getting more confident on the Breakfast Show, well at least going by what I heard this morning, haven't been listening lately.

Ah come on, on the radio, call the public idiots? That, to me is calling your listeners Idiots, end of.

Yes he has his opinion on films like all reviewers(some get it right some get it wrong of course) but he is one of the worst reviewers I have ever heard tbh! How did he think the Avengers was not going to be a box office hit if he thinks the public are idiots?

Sorry he is just so cynical, not a good reviewer to have on the show at all.

Cant stand the breakfast show, used to listen to it every morning for a few years but changed and I find Phantom's breakfast show better and not a total bring down for the first thing in the morning.

Moncreiff is still the best thing about NT.

What happened to NT? It used to be great all day long!

    Denis O'Brien.

It's really on a downhill slope alright, in danger of disappearing up its own hole one of these days. Nearly everyone on there now is just pushing O'Brien's agendas, or else is just so glaringly biased that it makes a mockery of any discussion they try to have.

Moncrieff, Off the Ball and The Green Room are about the only listenable shows these days.

lunchtime interviewing ken ring in a few minutes.

must be a right kick in the tits to the real met people like evelyn cusack that's often been on moncrieff to hear this.
as she's said many times on his show, long term weather forecasting is pure guesswork.

    Oi Vey!

One hour of Blobby Bobby was bad two hours is just taking the piss, how can someone with such mumbly diction be allowed on radio and get paid for the trouble (he causes my brain)?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

    its actually a smart move.

i cant stand the guy either but theres nothing else worth listening to at that hour of the morning and ive found myself actually listening to him till the far superior sunday business show comes on today FM at 10.

so they got one extra listener to at least part of his programme that was avoiding it and i dont reckon i'd be the only one.

Previous to this the only other option for me was RTE ones world report and bowman which dont really interest me. and dont get me started on sunday miscellany.

sad fecking thing is any increase in listeners will be used to justify his god awfull delivery on the grounds its going up.

    :D

Sunday Miscellany on RTE R1 must be the most depressing show of the week on Irish radio (every week its the same old rose tinted nostalgia twaddle about growing up dancing at the crossraods in rural Ireland of the 1950's or 60's poor but happy) but Bobby Kerr must running it close for his irritation value.

Blobby is obviously a "west Brit" as well ;), he was bemoaning the loss of Weetabix and Birds Eye to the wily Asians, referring to "us" and "we". He also sounded somewhat racist.

He should listen to his own doing business in Asia segment :p

Ah, at least Miscellany has da musaks. :pac: :pac: And some of the stories are quite good imo.

Much better than hearing Bobby drone on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on *plug for Insomnia Coffee* and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on.................

Who's this twat doing the news here at the minute? Such a disgrace of an interview with Declan Ganley just after happening, so biased against him and pretty clear he just didn't like Ganley. Then reading out all the "yes" voters text messages at the end. Pretty poor show and very unbalanced.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,988 ✭✭✭constitutionus

the yessies are terrified of ganly because he's "respectable".

i know i know ya wouldnt think it considering they keep trying to paint him as blofeld or something (though why the same people have no problem with peter sutherland is beyond me )

but fact is he's a typical FF/FG funder who in any other circumstance they'd laud to the hilt. self made millionaire, good family values type, middleclass etc. in fact if memory serves he donated to the big parties at the time and they'd no problem taking cash of him then.

kinda ruins the image that all the NO voters are musli chomping crusties , lunatics , and communists

its why all the bots came out of the woodwork from FGHQ to attack him in the texts immediatly after the peice.

i have to admit to loving how the guy can cut the legs out from underneath the spoofers in our political establishment.

no mean feat considering the bloke has no media training that i know of and were paying for the usual suspects to go to terry prone and the like at ridiculous rates of pay.

watch and see, theyll be attacking him unmercilessly over the next few weeks. particularly on the fact he's a rich guy, all the while studiously ignoring the fact so's dennis o brien and micheal o leary and theyve no problem with THEM as theyre voting "right" and using politicians as their catspaws

    :D

on the broadcast itself , yeah that was biased. got a GREAT laugh over the polls things.

IIRC no poll, bar one in the final week of lisbon 2, EVER saw a NO result coming. i still laugh at the RTE coverage of one of then when some of their reporters around the country were positively AGAST that the "wrong" result came in. cant help thinking some of their responces is why the footage of that disappeard off the net. theres a whole two hours or so missing from lisbon 1 on the ol RTE website archive.

Oh dear. This Abu Dhabi lark isn't going so well now.

With the size of the hotel you'd think they'd find a quiet room to broadcast from.

    Impossible to listen to this.

Sorry Sean, I'm off over to the other Sean.

Did anybody listen to an item broadcast over the weekend, may have been a repeat from during the week, the guy being interviewed was talking about mortgage and credit card debt. I only caught a few minutes but the jist was he had written to his bank a few years previous saying he was no longer paying them any more money and would only resume payments if the bank could legally prove that he actually owed them money. Sounds a bit bizarre but I was curious to find out who this guy was. He also spoke about the Icelandic Banking crisis and the Sean Quinn court case. Ring any bells with anyone?
