Anyone on the M50N from N4 - M1 junct this evening at about half five would have been treated to some goon in an artic flatbed truck, with a skip lorry on it, with 2 skips on the skip lorry, with rubbish in the upper-most skip, strike ever bridge along the way.

Everyone had to avoid him as he brushed each bridge, with crap scraying down on the road. The grantries were hit but it was just the rubbish, but the skip hit one of the concrete bridges under the Blanch exit pretty hard.

There may be only one thing for it, for every on-ramp to have a robust height restriction bar set for an operational clearance of 4.9m - or maybe the gantry signage should be lower than the bridges. Also, a few extra prison spaces wouldn't do too much harm either. Whatever the measure, this kind of reckless behaviour has got to stop.

    Regards!

With the volume of traffic on the M50 there should always be a couple of traffic corps garda bikes going up and down the length of the motorway all day long. Even the constant visual presence would alter some driver behaviour. Anyone remember CHiPs??

I think more people should start ringing the Garda Traffic Watch number (1890-205805) about Dangerous Driving / unsafe loads etc.,maybe then we will get a proper traffic corps presence on the M50.

There will be a change to the layout of the N2 outbound at the M50 Interchange at 6am on Saturday morning. Traffic for the N2 NB towards Ashbourne will exit the roundabout sooner than at present onto the new permanent layout along the ESB station and rejoin the N2 further out towards Coldwinters. This switch is to allow for the construction of the N2 NB freeflow to the M50 NB. Drawing is attached

999/112 would have been in order for this imo

    Hey M50 Traffic MGT

there's another thread on here about the disruption on the N4 slip today. I'veseen this happen numerous time previously also.

Are there any plans to do something about this situation before it leads to a serious collision (which I'm frankly amazed hasn't happened yet)

can you suggest anything that could be done?

Unfortunately we only cover the area of the current upgrade, J3 M1 to J6 N3 & J10 Ballymount to J14 Sandyford. As the interchange you refer to is now under the authority of M50 Concession Ltd, it is up to them and SDCC what measures be taken to avoid this disruption

ok then, as someone familiar with traffic operation and so forth would you have any theoretical solutions to this?

The only thing I can think of is to have traffic from Palmerstown merge into one lane, traffic from the M50 SB then join as a lane gain on the right and then have a lane gain on the left for traffic from the M50 NB. I'm not familiar with this interchange during peak hours but I can only assume that the merge into N4 outbound traffic from the M50 SB off ramp creates the clog, similar to M50 NB to M1 NB used to be until it was given a lane gain

Yes that't the type of thing that would reduce the risk of collision, the fewer merges the better.

This morning see's new roadmarkings on J14 Sandyford Interchange next to the Beacon complex. The old lining has been replaced with spiral markings that will hopefully make it easier to use the roundabout. Unfortunately we have not been supplied with detailed drawings but the new layout will be much easier to understand than the old one. Caution is advised until motorists become familiar with the new markings.

At the N3 Interchange there are only 2 more beams to be lifted into place which will happen tonight (Wednesday). This is the last of the structures and just leaves bridge slabs to be placed. Closures & contra-flows will continue nightly through to this weekend.

At the N2 Interchange, paving works on the northern side have started. These nightly works will raise the existing level of the road, very similar to the southern side, in preperation for opening the freeflow to the M50 NB. Restrictions will be in place for N2 outbound traffic with a diversion via the M50 to J6 Blanchardstown, and traffic on the M50 NB wishing to access Finglas or the city will be diverted north on the N2 to Coldwinters where the diversion will lead back onto the N2 citybound

The N2 is definitely talking shape now, its good to see. The new pedestrian ramp looks a bit mad, stairway to nowhere at the minute :pac:

This was long needed. Let's see how it works.

edit: having just passed this way, albeit as a passenger, it seems a complete mess. They seem to have added lines without burning off the old ones. No help at all.

I actually passed this way around 2pm, and think its a SLIGHT improvement. What concerns me in the early morning is that sometimes the free flow slip from Rathfarnham direction/city-bound (ie LHS inbound to city centre) actually backs up around the bend, causing the merge to spill back onto the roundabout

Passed through N3 interchange this am and back again and saw the new beams are now in place. It's complete all the way around now and guys all about pouring hte new deck. Fairly big pour so will take a good few days to complete / cure yet. Starting to take shape now!!

Lining will be modified on the Scholarstown Rd outbound tonight approaching the M50. Chevrons will be modified to direct traffic into the left most lane which continues straight on over the M50. This was initially a design problem and will be corrected by tomorrow morning

Are you sure N2 outbound to M50 N? M50.ie says "city bound N2 to the northbound M50" was opened.

N2 Outbound to M50 NB Freeflow was opened this morning. All 4 freeflows from the N2 to the M50 are now operational

    Awesome.

Are night time closures at this junction expected to continue?

Yup. The revised layout is now mapped on OpenStreetMap.

I'd guess so, as there are still 5 more things to complete.

    1. M50 north left slip to N2 north
    2. M50 north via new bridges and anticlockwise loop to N2 south
    3. M50 south left slip to N2 south
    4. M50 south via new bridges and anticlockwise loop to N2 north
    5. Pedestrian/cycle route through the completed junction and those weird bridges.

N2 outbound to M50 NB still involved going through 2 sets of traffic lights on the old roundabout yesterday evening. Traffic was the same as ever.

There were three sets. There are now two. Each step brings the full free flow interchange closer.

very true...its progress. Are the lights before the Toyota garage to remain after the junction is completed. They really kill the traffic flow

This weekend there will be works on the N2 outbound. From 10pm Friday night to 6am Monday morning there will be one lane closed from Denis Mahoney Toyota to the ESB substation. This is to plane the existing road and lay the new grade. It will be done half and half with a traffic switch on Saturday night. For the duration of these works the M50 SB loop to the N2 NB will be temporarily open because the southern section of the roundabout will be closed. There will also be only one set of lights on the N2 outbound because the first set at the M50 will not be needed as the rotary will be closed. The lights at the ESB station will remain as they are with the left lane coming from the loop and the right lane coming from the city. All will be returned to normal at 6am on Monday morning with the loop closing to finish works

As far as I am aware these under passes are for cables from the ESB sub station. They are high voltage and cannot be buried too deep because the heat that they create will damage them so they are buried quite shallow so the air can naturally cool them
