Perhaps the title of the thread should be the "worst highly raited professional I've ever seen" Obviously I don't think he's THEE worst player.

As a professional who plays 6 handed TV table format very often I don't think it's acceptable for him not to understand ICM or equity which he clearly doesn't.

In his exit hand (5th place) in the final he open shoved over 10BBs with Q8o from the cut-off and everyone at the table had seen him do this with rags all week increasing the likelihood of a call. Payouts were 250K, 120K, 60K, 40K, 30K, 20K. If he is experimenting with his play then it's quite an expensive experiment. It's much more likely that he just doesn't know how to play this format.

Eddy Scharf is a player I have an enormous amount of respect for both as a gentleman and a player and it's sad to see that someone like him has to come 2nd or 3rd just to be invited back to play next year, when Hellmuth can play crap, come dead last in the league but still be guaranteed a seat next season and the reason for in his own words is "but I'm good for TV!" I would much rather watch an on-line qualifier who plays very well than watch a cartoonish fake like Luske or Hellmuth play like a donkey.

Also, I'm freelance. I don't work directly for anyone so I am free to voice my opinion here however I wish, the same as anyone else.

to be honest if wat u say is true then we should all play like donkeys as luske and hellmuth did because from wat they have done in poker it is very impressive indeed .
i know macel well and always found him to be nothing but a gent and always helpfull in anyway he could .i have played with him and found him to be one of the best in naming wat u are playing with .

now i have seen some of our home grown players making moves with ****e cards and there been called the best for doing the same .and u then call 2 world class players the worst for doing the same .
now mr o d when u ever win something big and then do it again u can come back and state your mine as we know even the donkeys can get lucky once but i think marcel and hellmuth have proven themselfs and dont need a small time player to mock them .

    At one stage..

Beevers was in seat 3 and i was in seat 4 and he wins a pot..The dealer pushes the chips towards him but doesnt quite make all the way across to him, so Beevers throws his cards between me and him and says "If you're gonna make me work, i'm gonna make you work"

If he was really rude then someone should post about it on the mob forum.

I have no qualms about doing it. It came as a shock to me as I`ve now dealt to all four of them and Ram, Barney and Ross were all perfect gentlemen at the table. Its funny too how every dealer make the same remarks to me, and also it was weird how the others at the table made a point of thanking me as I left, as if to say "don`t mind him kid" or w/e.

I interpreted that as just banter, but I suppose one man's banter is another's obnoxiousness, which is one of the reasons I rarely if ever engage in banter when playing live. I've learned the hard way that my delivery is too deadpan for a lot of people, and I'm not really very funny at all at all.

If you read any of Joe's articles, you can see he has a very good but totally deadpan sense of humour.

I played with both Joe and Marcel and TBH they are fairly similiar in how they mistreat and talk down to dealers in particular Marcel was shocking with some of his table antics towards dealers.

Maybe it is some sort of ego thing:confused:

As an aside, Joe - I would always say "thanks" when a dealer left the table. So people saying that may not have meant it the way you prescribe it above.
Do you normally shake your head in a dont mind him sort of way, as well? Hard to describe I guess - dont want to get into it, but to put it this way, I got the point.

There is deadpan humour, which I can appreciate, and there is ignorance like "blatently being obtrusive and, what I call, questioning with intent.

Marcel is by far and away the worst I have ever dealt to, Joe was just annoying and petty, Marcel was a proper twat.

there's one fella worse... has played the last two EPT Dublins. english accent but is french/italian i think, wears a scarf ALL the time and looks like soap might be an after-thought...

This sounds very familiar to me.
I managed some of the "trendy" bars in Dublin a few years ago, these bars would attract a certain type of clientele, many of whom would have a very similar attitude towards barstaff as has been described towards dealers.
We called it the"do you know who I am?"syndrome.

Victoria Coren's latest column in The Guardian
    A Remarkable Pot (14 April, 2008)
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/theguardian/2008/apr/14/poker
But my book isn't Luske's. He stares at Kang. He thinks for a long time. He considers his trip threes. He stares at Kang some more. And then, for only 1,500 into a pot of 3,100, he folds his hand. This [Luske] is truly one of the greatest poker players of all time...

    Victoria Coren v TheDiamond HU4ROLLZ?

So he folded the 8th nuts on the river after the action went bet, raise, re-raise.

    Yeah he's amazing all right.

In fairness Nicky is a poker journalist and therefore better than Vicky at it.

Vicky however might be the better columnist as that is what she does. [As well as playing poker, writing books and making porno films.]
