She also said to avoid petite pois peas as apparently they have a small amount of natural contraceptive in them :O

That's good to know. The same is true for sweet potatoes. (Unlike African Yams which are linked to the prevalence of fraternal twins in regions where they are the staple food. Which causes a lot of mix ups in the States, where sweet potatoes are called Yams and women hoping to increase their ovulation eat lots of "yams" and unknowingly decrease their chances of conceiving.)

The blood could have been one of two things. Sometimes blood gets released with ovulation because of the way the egg broke through the ovarian wall. Or alternatively you could have gotten a small tear during sex, which bled a little.

Ovulation pain is pretty normal, it's called mittleschmertz and can often be very noticeable. It's best to keep track of it and make sure it just happens around your ovulation.

Hey thanks for that, although I'm sure I ovulated on day 15 as had ovulation cramping then and egg White mucus, this is different , it's almost like a little stitch or muscle strain but isn't and is on left side around where ovary should be?

Lucyfur I hope your ok, arnica is fantastic for bruising! If ya got the 30c tablets take them every 2 hrs for first 2 days ( while ur awake obvs!!! ;) ). Then 4 times a day, that's what I always do anyway! I'd say she's right about the surgery, your poor body is trying to get to grips with where it's at now, I know it's frustrating but time will be the only thing which allows it to get sorted again!

Lucyfur that was great in H&B, sounds like they're very informative. I've never bought from them before, just ordered my capsules online, fingers crossed!

Isn't that gas about the peas & yams, the effect they have on fertility!

Iguana excellent advice regarding when to stop the supplement. I wondered that myself but couldn't find information about if it was safe to take during pregnancy (If it ever happens!)

One website said it was used during Roman times to reduce married womens libido while their husbands were away at war; so they wouldn't be tempted to be unfaithful! Has anyone found it has a negative effect on your libido?

Sorry you didn't get your positive wolfpawnpat, hopefully you'll get it soon :)

Hi ladies, I hope I find you well x
Sorry to hear you were unlucky Wolfpawnat! I hope you get your pos real soon as I do for everyone on here :)

Lucyfur how are you? I hope pains are settling down & you're getting back to yourself x

DFT I hope you're ok xx

DL, Cap & Neyite keep positive (easier said than done) I have a gut feeling this will be all of our year :)

I hope it's ok to continue to post here :) I really miss talking to you all x I've gone to the preg site but it's not the same without you all :(

Ladies, what do all the abbreviations in this thread mean? Specifically 'bfp' I'm so confused trying to read it..

I take the AC capsules, 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening. I take them from day one of my cycle up until the day I get the Lh surge. Because like most herbs that affect the reproductive system, they are good when you aren't pregnant but can cause miscarriage/complications once you are.

I might try these out. On CD66 now . Took a pregnancy test last night (first response one) and it was negative. Kind of expected it though. Really hoping period will come soon and i can then take the AC capsules for the following month.

Of course it is, I love to hear your updates & that everything is going well! gives us something to look forward to (hopefully in the near future!)

Lady101, here's a list of the commonly used abbreviations on pregnancy websites (we're not supposed to use them here but can tend to be force of habit :o)

BFP - big fat positive (positive pregnancy test result)
    BFN - big fat negative
CD = cycle day (ie if you're 5 days into your cycle, you refer to it as cd5)
LH - Luteinising hormone - the hormone released when you're ovulating
HCG - pregnancy hormone (can't spell it, too lazy to google it!) the hormone that pregnancy tests measure, present only if you're pregnant
    TTC - trying to conceive
DTD - did the deed - did the bould thing ;)
    CM - Cervical mucus
EWCM - egg whit cervical mucus
    MC - miscarriage

Can't think of anymore right now, brain addled after loooong day in work. Welcome on board :)

Have you gone to your GP yet? it might be no harm if you don't get a period soon
I'm in the same boat, just wish by feckin period would hurry on and arrive (CD40!) so I can also try the capsules.

Girlies I am fit to be tied today. I'm waiting over 5 months for an appointment in the local hospital.
On the recommendation of my GP, I rang the hospital today to see when I should get my appointment. They said there is no record of a letter requesting an appointment, I've to ask me GP to send another letter :mad::mad::mad::mad:
So I'm back to square one! I'm absolutely livid, this isn't the first time a GP has sent a letter in for me only to be told no letter was received.

I think its time I started to get pushy, I'll leave it a week for my GP's letter to be received & I'll be ringing them next week to find out what date my appointment will be. could be months away though :(

I'm afraid that's what seems to be necessary in this country. My husband was waiting for an appointment with a specialist clinic for the torn tendons in his wrist for months after a hospital referral. He started ringing them every week and I thought he was being too impatient and should just wait until his turn came around. But 2 weeks ago he finally got his appointment and he only got it as he rang just as someone was filling in the diary for the summer. If he hadn't kept on ringing he'd still be waiting.

Went to the docs last week and she took bloods but basically told me to try for minimum 6months before she would be anyway concerned. To be honest was thinking today, I paid €70 for bloods and appt and no-one even had the courtesy to ring and say my bloods were ok or otherwise. It's not good enough.

I would be livid if I were you capri....put the foot down this time.

I dont blame you for being annoyed. Put them on speed dial - that'll learn them!

Newbie -I had to ring up for my bloods too, but they are a good GP so i will let them off the hook. If it is just bloods then the practice nurse could do them and it might be cheaper? I get them done for €25 with the nurse, but the GP herself would be €50.

I have my appointment on friday morning regarding the injections she wants to put me on. All I know is that they will be on days 4 & 8 with scans. Im going to start compiling my list of possible questions that I might have for her.

A question for yis - If I do go on this treatment plan it will probably require frequent appointments. Any ideas how I could explain it at work without explaining it if you know what I mean? Do other women tell work that they are undergoing fertility treatment?

Cap stay away from those blue dye tests, they are NOTORIOUS for giving evaps. No one on FertilityFriend goes near them, they have such a bad name!
That's a bummer about thinking you were pg, no wonder you were upset. ((hugsies))

Nothing new with me. CD 16 and no sign of ovulation. It's weird, I got two reall stong (but not quite positives) on Saturday and Sunday, and now they are non existent again  that never happens to me. Once they start to go darker I get a positive in the next day or so. My ovulation pain has been very mild, just the odd twinge, usually it's a fairly constant stabbing pain by now. I wonder did my body try to ovulate and it didn't happen (epic ovulation fail ) or did I miss the surge when testing..? I do remember being more aroused on Monday morning and had some ewcm, we had sex anyway but am just a bit worried. My lap is booked for this day 3 weeks. If I O late then my next cycle will start later, hope I don't need to cancel it...... I will be so pissed if that's the case. Oh the joys.....
I have to say though I am not really obsessing much this cycle. It worries me a bit, I think all of my 'hope' is gone.....:(........at the same time though at least I'm not a total basket case like last cycle:eek:

Hope you all are well :)

Neyite, you'll probably need to come clean in work (with the bosses). would it worry you to do that?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,846 ✭✭✭barbiegirl

Neyite my last employers were great but you know them best.

I'm trying to find clothes that will hide any showing at all til 16 weeks. Don't want to have conversation with my new bosses until then. Feel bad about it but i need to work and my initial contract is 6 months so that gets me to 6 weeks off due :-) fingers crossed :-)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,880 ✭✭✭caprilicious

Iguana - I'm glad your husband got his appt in the end, seems to be the only way to go.

Neyite, that's good thinking to go to the nurse instead. If af ever arrives this month, I was thinking of requesting the bloods to be taken myself, but I'll definitely go to the nurse instead of the gp.
I had day 3 bloods taken in a clinic & she did ring me back, I foolishly never went back for my day 21 bloods though.

I think it might be no harm telling your employer, or if you're in a company with a hr manager; explain it to them.

Sorry Newbie you did say you had been to the doc, I even replied to you previously when you said you went to the doc, I've a head like a sieve these days, don't even have baby brain to blame it on :o

Barbiegirl - did you get the new job?? congrats if you did!!

Detectiv - I'm going to stick to the tests that say 'pregnant' or 'not pregnant' from here on in! Its funny you say that about the evap, on one side of the circle with the line through it there was lots of dots.
They came up almost immediately, so it wasn't a clean single line - there was evap dots there too.

If it helps, I was a bit 'blah' & apathetic about this months cycle too.
I think because I didn't confirm definitely if I was ovulating, so didn't feel there was much to get my hopes up for. Maybe its our minds way of protecting us from going mad with the frustration?
Fingers crossed you did just miss the surge on the test, but the did the deed at the right time :)

Yeah, It would be a concern of mine to come clean about fertility treatments there to be honest. There is no HR, and management is all male. My supervisor is female, but if anything, she would be worse than the rest- she is the type that would consider ways of replacing me so she wouldnt have hassle with maternity leave cover. She passes a lot of my reports etc off as hers to management so freaks whenever I take time off for fear she is asked to compile anything and I am not there.

I will ask the specialist what kind of time I am likely to need. I spoke to my GP last summer about this concern, and she agreed to write me sick notes/absences from her practice rather than from a fertility clinic, probably for a gynae issue (How sound is that!) I would also be working up any time taken so they are not a loss.

I suppose, if I have to tell them at some point, then as himself says -whats more important, us becoming a little family or a crap job? I have until 65 to get that perfect career, my window on the perfect baby is, well, now. :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,880 ✭✭✭caprilicious

Neyite, sounds like your female supervisor is a bit of a wagon. Might be better off just for the moment going to your male manager & tell him you are attending for gynae issues.

Any male manager I have had baulks at the thoughts of a woman going into detail on this matter & it doesn't necessarily mean fertility treatment.
It would give you breathing space also, rather than maybe having an insensitive colleague asking awkward questions.
(I've a 'friend' like that that keeps asking me 'any news yet', eh yeah I'm 6 months gone, invisible bump )

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,846 ✭✭✭barbiegirl

Yep Cap I got the job and start in 1.5 weeks, wanted to get scan over with before I started. It's not the best job in the world but I needed something that I could prove myself before I told them, and fingers crossed I can get something out of it in terms of adding to my cv. They are a nice company with nice people.
Thankfully they dress casually when not out with clients, so little dresses, jeans, combats should do and nice dresses and jackets for when out and about.

Netite female managers are always worse. Try wherever possible to organise appointments before work and at lunch times, so you are starting late, or taking a late or early lunch. Most appointments only last 20-30 minutes.

    i am soooo pissed off.

i had an ectopic back in April, got the meth injection on the 28th April.

i am still attending the hospital for weekly blood tests, i have to keep going until the HCG reaches 5 or below

Last week it was at 27 - so light at the end of the tunnel or so i though but no, todays result 2 ****ing 1.

so am back again next week, and if there isnt a big change, they are going to talk to a senior doctor and make a plan of action. this so frustrating.

i have stopped eating breakfast cereal because it is fortfied with folic acid, i am reading every indgredient list to make sure there is no folic acid in anything i am eating.

i still cant run or drink alcohol - arrrrrrrrrrrrrgh

Oooh, I swore I wouldn't symptom spot this month but today is day 20 and for the last two days my boobs feel like they are getting bigger and sorer by the hour. How do you ignore that?

Stupid thing is I regularly get sore boobs ahead of my period, so it's not like it's really a symptom, it's just hormonal pain. I hate the waiting game. 2 weeks is like eternity.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭Tigeress

Oh Dinnerlegs that's awful hun I hope you're ok! You are very understandably annoyed :( hopefully as you said this senior Doc will be able to shed some light on this for you and you can get back to TTC..

Iguana they seem like good signs :) fingers crossed!!

Barbiegirl Congrats on the new job :) I wish you the best of luck with it! I totally understand the wait of not telling them your preg just be careful about streching and lifting and stressing hun! How far are you along now? I'm on 11W3D delighted :) although dying with an awful head cold/viral infection :( Doc said not to take anything but Paracetemol and let it run it's corse.. Hopefully it'll break soon!

My other half and myself were together 6 years last week and he said to me 'wanna get married before peanut arrives?' I was like 'no, that's not a proper proposal!' lol I would like to get married but I'm not in any hurry what so ever, and I might sound awful but I'd really like a romantic proposal :o I hope I don't come off as shallow there cause I'm not at all! Just thought I'd share with you ladies!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,601 ✭✭✭DetectivFoxtrot

Oh my god Tigeress - you just got engaged!! yay!!!! :D joke, joke. Your poor OH. Maybe he was testing the water to see your reaction. Here's hoping a big soppy proposal is on it's way very soon ;)

Neyite your boss sounds like an utter moron. I have one similar. Sounds like a plan re your GP writing the notes :)

Barbiegirl congrats, hope the job works out!

Dinnerlegs my heart goes out to you (((hugs))). sorry if this is a silly question but why are you avoiding folic acid?

Cap, sounds like an evaporation line alright, I've heard the second line (of the cross) comes up slightly dotted.

Well, I think my ovulation is just late. Pain getting stronger now and test is +
Had sex again this eve and will go again tomorrow and Friday if we can manage it, that'll be 5 days in a row, we're already spent!;)

Well done to your OH....it's no joke by the time it hits day3!

Congrats on the new job barbiegirl. We've had people accept jobs with us and they have then immediately told us that they are pregnant. There's nothing you can do legally and at least it gives your new job time to plan for your cover. I think I'd rather tell them than have them guess. Maybe play it by ear and see how it goes.. I'd swap for your predicament right now!

Tigeress you are so far on now...time flies! When is your 12wk scan?

I'm on CD68 now and doc calle today to say my bloods are fine so hopefully it's just a matter of time and patience. Anyways, all you lovely ladies entertain me every evening with your stories. :)

Detective - SHAGATHON!! :D Enjoy!! You can stagger back to us for your two week wait!

I was wondering that about folic acid too DinnerLegs, I hope your system settles down, its not easy.

Barbiegirl - Best of luck in the new job. Fair play for getting one so quickly.

Iguana - I have prolactin issues so my boobs were like pre-period all.the.time, I used to have to cup them and wince every time I had to run for a bus, and its not like they were wobbling all over the place, Im only a little b cup. Now on the bromocriptine and they are grand now, I actually started the couch to 5k programme, which I could not have done with sore bewbs.

Tigeress - I'm like your fella, I wanted us to be married before a baby but any dreams of that are well and truly on hold until we see what treatment costs us. How crushed would I be if I spent money on a wedding that could have gone towards one more round of *insert fertility treatment here* But I want a romantic proposal too - not fussy about a wedding. small civil do with a nice dinner with nearest and dearest would be perfect.

By the way, yourself and Barbiegirl can hang around here as long as ya like, same goes for any other preggers wimmins as far as I am concerned. I think of yourselves as good luck charms for the rest of us.:)

I had a think today, and am going to come down with gynae issues. ;) pretty sure it might bring any enquires to a skidding halt. Will have a chat with Doc and see whats most plausible.

I was very meh this month too. I think its about self preservation and not getting my hopes up. But *does Scarlett O'Hara pose, shaking fist*as god is my witness, I am gonna get knocked up in the next year. :p

oh oh oh, I wanna do this! Is is hard? I tried to 'start' last week (i.e. run down the village and back:o), only lasted on evening!! I have zero motivation when it comes to exercise, and I badly need to tone up, my bum looks like a bumpy road!
My poor OH said to me the next day, will you go out for another run tonight, you were in such great form when you got in last night. Terrible, I must be a moany beatch 99% of the time! It's true though - I felt great after the run. Knew I wouldn't keep it going though.....

  • Administrators, Politics Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,947 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Neyite

Do it! seriously. I'm thinking long term, I want to be running post pregnancy to shift any baby weight.

there is a great couch to 5k thread in the ladies lounge, and one of the posters has links to the podcasts for each.

I am crap at motivation too, so I do the following: I get changed into the running gear as soon as I get in from work and before I settle into Boards for the night and just head out. Its only a 30 min podcast so thats another way I convince myself.

I'm still stuck on week 1 at the moment, I kinda stopped and started but this week I'm gonna keep going. I smoked for years so feel the effects, and initially took it easy. I took the running up as a way of getting TTC stress out of me, and its great to run like a mad yoke when your annoyed at your uterus. :pac:

I'm only 6 weeks this Friday so a long way to go. I don't want to tell just in case we lose again, but thankfully it's desk based so no streching or lifting :-) Stress might be anotehr matter.

Your other half was defo testing the water :-) The romantic proposal is just around the corner especially if you drop some hints :-)

And I never answered your question properly DF. Doh

The podcast is 30 mins. The guy tells you when to speed up and slow down and there is music on it in one package.
First its a 5 min brisk walk to warm up, followed by 60 secs jog. then you slow to 90 secs brisk walk and repeat until there are 8 runs done. Finally you slow down for the last 5 mins to a medium walk to cool down. do this 3 times a week leaving a day between each.

Usually I double back for home halfway through the podcast. I have it all on my phone and just tie a key to my shoelaces.

The subsequent weeks gradually increase on the running segments until you are running constant.
