Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does anyone know if packages being sent from england to ireland are checked the same as items from japan etc would be?, that is would they be x-rayed and so on or do they just pass through. For example if fireworks were to be sent from England to Ireland would they be stopped?(MODERATORS:ONLY AN EXAMPLE, IM NOT ACTUALLY IMPLYING OR CONDONING THIS ACTION IN ANY WAY):D

I would move this to Post & Postal Issues if such a forum existed. Given fireworks are illegal, of course they would be seized if found. Nuclear material probably would also if that's your next question, Mr. Kaczynski (or can I call you Theo?). Same for Anthrax, doggy-poo, kidnap-victim proof-of-life body parts, dead kittens, kiddie-porn and drunk friends on a stag weekend.

Given lawyers, law students (and probably petty criminals :) ) frequent this forum, good luck trying to find somebody who worked in a sorting office. I'll leave the thread open for potential amusement purposes.

Many packages are scanned with a variety of technologies. Explosives tend to show up because of their specific density when x-rayed. It doesn't even need a person looking at it, certain densities and images (knife, gun) will have the machine stop for inspection of have the package diverted into a separate area for inspection. Nuclear materials will show, based on either their radiation or the heavy shielding involved (it's rare to see lead, or the even heavier uranium sent by post). They then have all sorts of sniffer technology (for drugs, explosives, meat products) from dogs to machines and then the good old human who reads the "keep away from fire" label your friend attaches. Unless it smells, I imagine most biohazards are difficult to detect. This is why they are subject to microwaving. In this regard, sending the groom home via airmail, may result in him suffering from burns as well as radiation poisoning.

Given that much post between the UK and Ireland is actually airmail (I imagine only cross-border post is via road) and fireworks are both illegal and a hazard on airplanes, anyone sending such materials by post is reckless to the safety of the aircraft's occupants.

Of course, they might also open the package, suspect you are a member of the RIRA and have you arrested in a spectacular manner.

The best bit comes in the case where a member of the post office staff pilfers you package and to cover his tracks, hoses you and you family with an AK47.

So, how does 5 years to life slopping out in Mountjoy sound?

The only way to transport fireworks is with a licence and an appropriate vehicle.

Cross border post is sent via the mainland UK.

I take it back. There are some very knowledgeable people here as regards the mail. Or they are professional smugglers.
