i was up earlier this week and have paid a deposit on the design i want created so i can get it done in march. me being a muppet i didnt ask the name of the fella i was dealing with. i'l be getting a email pretty soon with the design so i guess i'l find out then. i only seem to find Michele mentioned on the boards so is he the best there or just the owner?
plus for the surface of one of my foots he suggested 280-300, although i had to push him to give me a ballpark figure. that seems a bit much for two hours as i saw on one of the other threads the rate was 100 a hour in art tattoo. has it gone up? i dont mind paying, its on me for life after all, just curious.

how are they like to deal with when creating designs to a brief? i heard they're the best for old school black shading and thats why i went there but i'd like to hear other ppls experiences of the place to put my mind at ease. :o

Well when i got my piece done he just whipped out a sharpie and started drawing. Youre experience seems will be different. they coulda gone up who knows, go ask em. he is quite slow too. excellent tattoo artists but typically italian and never on time haha

I have had a lot of work done by various artists in Dublin, I have had 2 completely differing experiences in Art tattoo-both of which were with Michele. Last year I had quite a large piece done and he was very polite, respectful and I was really happy with the work. This time around I encountered someone who made me uncomfortable, he made inappropriate comments and was quite sleazy. There are a lot of artists working in Dublin at the moment , some exceptionally good , some exceptionally bad but the most important thing is that you trust the artist and feel comfortable having them work on you. It is for this reason that I would not recommend Art.

hmm thats strange to hear and made me a bit uncomfortable. i should be fine, im going with a friend and as much as i'd like to get on well with whoevers doing it, its more important to me that he's skillful. its whats on my skin that'll last you know? anyone else know him to be sleazy?

he was fine with me but I'm a dude...
he was a bit of a d!ck but he's a good tattoo artist, i would still go back to him cos he's good and fore-go the possibility of him being a jerk. also everyone has off days, maybe i caught him on a bad day

To be honest with you I have to go back there as I have to have this piece finished but for my next pieces I'm going to Zulu. Like I said I have a lot of work done-over 17 pieces and I have never been made uncomfortable until now.

hmm.. i looked at past threads and he seems to have a bit of a rep as a rude person. im involved in the art scene and tbh theres nothing i hate more then ego blasters. lilpeachpie, wow 17 pieces i'd love to see some of pm or put them up here. especially anything done by michele. can you pm me the details, ie. what he said to you to make you uncomfortable.
he was polite to me the other day though.

i've always found the quiet ppl that go about their work to be better then really overly chatty folk, concenating maybe. whether it be hairdresses or artists ect. but then theres down right unfriendly lol. still looking forward to getting the design in a email tbh. its been a week, so hopefully it'll arrive soon.

i have to recommend justin in zulu then, very talented, and just a ridiculously nice bloke. he chatted with me when i needed to just ramble to cope with the pain, put up with me coming in and out a few times over the weeks coming up with ideas, and asking his opinion and while i was getting it done, he was only ever friendly, encouraging and patient, working late some evenings, and making space for my piece especially as i had to have an extra session and was only in the country for 2 weeks at that stage.

yeah justin in zulu is a bang on chap is really into his work! Im afraid Sean has seen better days and his work is suffering as a result!

oh god now im confused. i wanted old school as the style and everyone suggested art tattoo. its not like i can pop up to zulu every few days to discuss designs anyway (im in the west) and art tattoo is designing it at the mo since i paid a deposit.

so they're good just not overly friendly? i dunno i'd choose good and used to the style over chatty, thats why my mates coming with me. ugh now im confused.

after seeing the amount of botched jobs in galway im heading somewhere with a cleaner reputation to the best of my knowledge. i could chance the new place in galway but its my skin and its just a bus ticket.
more importantly, im more comfortable getting a tattoo from someone who specialises in the style i want. i mean no offence, i just think its the more sensible option.

ah yeah I know what you mean, but I've had work done in zulu while I was living in dublin, and it's grand, but I just want a pure pro to work on me,and being from the big smoke doesn't qualify just about anyone to do so ya know! vinny is by far the most pro guy I've ever met and all I said was a few words to him and he designed 2 killer BIG tattoos for me based on what little I had said to him, but thats a guy whos been doing it for 17 years, but still gets the same buzz from it,mainly because, like myself,he's an artist at heart and a tattoo artist by trade! What kind of design is it your getting? Can you post a picture?

i do realise being from dublin doesnt mean they are any good which is why i did look at artists online in cork and waterford as well. i picked art tattoo, if i must repeat myself, because i wanted old school black shading work and they specialise in this. its got nothing to do with its location. (not trying to be snippy but read my posts :p)

the designs an extention of what i have on my foot already. i want it to now include a rose, swallow and a heart with a lock and the bird carrying the key. not very orginal maybe, but its something i came up with based on the dogma of "freedom, beauty, truth and above all things love" of moulin rouge the musical (yes im just that nerdy). i just love how it sums up the most important things in life, at least to me. (the beauty bit is about creating and finding beauty in everyday things, through my art or even my work. not beauty in a vain or shallow sense). please dont lay into me about the idea being crap please, im quite happy with the concept.

i've always loved old style tattoos. theres something classic and traditional about them.
i've choosen my feet because the first thing i noticed that could age as a kid was my grandmothers feet. i could definately deal with my feet telling my story as i get older. plus i love having bare feet!
i havnt any design images yet as i havnt received anything from art tattoo yet. didnt want to design it myself as its not the style of art i do, i person life drawing and graphic art.
i wont post it though when i do as i really dislike the idea of someone going online, printing it off as flash and getting it done themselves. clearly the images themselves are traditional, but the layout and style will be my own. might sound silly but its for me not for someone else :o just dont want to go online someday to see someone with an exact copy.

The guys in Classic Ink are pretty much all oldskool and Brian in Wildcat loves his oldskool stuff (I got an Ed Hardy coffin off him that turned out pretty nice) my friend also has an amazing old skool sleeve from Paul in wildcat.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 383 ✭✭DILLIGAF

is that sleeve on Paul or is it one he did? He's Paul 2, I'm Paul 3 and another mate is Paul 1, were all mates like, but the last time I was in dubland(moved home to mayo recently) it was only the outline, should probably get him to forward a picture! :P

ive had my tattoo done now a year, by the guys in art tattoo.
just been looking at a pic of my tattoo by chance and well to be honest, even though he was kind of a jerk to me, id go back again in an instant cos its so damn good (the tattoo)

i know theres a lot to be said for nice guys etc but hes a tattoo artist not your best mate. me, im willing to put up with a jerk for an awesome tattoo.

I know what you're saying and I do have to go back to him to have this piece finished however, as a female I am not going to put myself in a position where I am uncomfortable and I will go elsewhere for all future inking. My recommendation for any female looking to get tattooed and asking advice on where to go is to look elsewhere, deposit or no deposit

hmm maybe telling him straight out, i dunno then he might fúck up your ink....

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,000 ✭✭✭spinandscribble

at the end of the day peach he made you uncomfortable. maybe he was flirty and it over stepped the mark for you. maybe it was a dirty joke ect, i dunno, if i was you when i'd go back if he made you uncomfortable i'd tell him so. he might have thought he was being friendly, i dunno, its hard to tell without details. definitely say so though.
i agree with wilburt, a tattoo artist isnt meant to be your mate but s/he's not suppose to make you feel uncomfortable or lie your wasting his/her time. s/he's in the customer service sector whether they like it or not.
