Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Surprised John Sykes didnt get a mention. Yeah Rory is prob my fave, Gary Moore too. I think Satriani's stuff is more listenable then Vai. Altho I like AC/DC I wouldnt count either of the Youngs as great guitar players.

Good that nobody mentioned the edge - another effects monkey

I can't believe I'm the first to mention Eric Johnson.

Also, the hugely under appreciated, John 5.

    Fu@kin sure, he's a true guitar god! here's my top 5

    Slash
    Randy Rhoads (R.I.P)
    Zakk Wylde
    Jerry Cantrell
    John 5

Edge does the simple things well. His guitar playing on "One" is class.

And since when does doing the simple things well make someone a hero?! :D

J Mascis, Brian Baker, Giordai Ua Laioghaire (mad man), Chuck Shuldiner.

Edit: How could I forget Carlos Vamos, he is mind blowing!

Not all of them may be that technically brilliant but they all influenced me quite big. Giordai Ua Laoighre is very good though, he's from Cork and quite a strange guy. He's not very well known, there was a documentary done on him over here. It's pretty interesting and entertaining.

One is a good song, but i've never heard anything special from him, personally i would congrdulate him in fooling the world with his simple structure of playing guitar, never heard him doing a lead solo more 8 notes, he's toooooooooooo basic and again boring snorrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!1

    Mick Taylor.
Was great with the Stones and John Mayall's bluesbreakers.

Actually that just made me think of Buddy Whittington too, his current guitarist. Big man, big talent.

Has anyone mentioned John McLaughlin yet?

    He is an inspiration.

Matt Bellamy Anyone??!!?? Ok not the fastest, but truly an innovator in terms of the way we look at the guitar, his use of effects and general style.
James hetfield aswell, awesome rythm player ( it's not all about the lead ya know) he had the best rythm skills ever.... too bad his right hand has gone to ****. Michael Angelo Batio if your lookig for pure shred. but alot of these shredders have no substance to their blur of notes> Joh petrucci is one of my favourite players but somehow I just feels he tries to cram as many notes as he can into a bar. daron Malakian is another favourite - creative and simple and riffmeisters joel stretzel and adam dutkiewicz.

Ya don't have to be flashy to be brilliant, imo.

    Or to be influential.

ok pretty much all of the guys mentioned so far are awesome in some way or other but come on guys only a percentage of them could be REAL guitar heroes.

Anyone see the 'pick of destiny', where they break into the rock museum and find the guitar gods room? well how many of the guitarists mentioned so far would be in that room?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,573 ✭✭✭Slutmonkey57b

I can't envision a situation where I would ever be in a room where Pick of Destiny would be playing, never mind watch the thing.
