Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Apart from the CD ripping tools built into software like iTunes can somebody recommend a standalone CD ripping tool? If possible freeware or open-source.

CDex is pretty good, used it before myself and have no complaints.

Depends what you want - if you want really high quality then Exact Audio Copy (EAC) is brilliant. It takes a bit of setting up but it can extract audio to .WAVs with absolutely no loss of quality. It will also manage an external encoder such as flac to give you compressed lossless files.

The downside is it is a bit slow to rip CDs as it reads each track several times to ensure an accurate rip. But if you want high quality audio it's probably the best there is.

Easy CD-DA is the biz, its very fast. CDex took about 40 mins to extract 50mb of data when I used it a few days ago (at which point I tried Easy CD-DA)

Downloaded Express Rip and it's great. It has an MP3 encoder built in! Thanks.
    I'll try Easy CD-DA tomorrow.

EAC is one of the best pieces of software for ripping out there.
