    Hi all,

Have just had my NCT on 98 VW Mk III Golf and it failed on wheel bearing play on the offside rear.

Have been told it could be a pricey enough job so was just wondering if anyone has an idea of ball park figure this will cost?

Also if anyone could PM me with a recommended garage who would carry out the job I would greatly appreciate it.

    Cheers,

    Squawk

I got a wheel bearing for a vectra last week. I bought it in the North at a cost of £24 and got it fitted for €50.

A rear wheel bearing for a VW Golf Mk III will retail for around €16 + vat, that's for a quality "branded" bearing from an OE manufacturer, beware tho this is a very popular bearing resulting in lots of Chinese made product around with questionable quality, and for which you will pay the same price as a quality one.

Thanks for the advice lads. Irish Paddy 2007, what quality brand would you recommend?

    Cheers

The 3 main automotive wheel bearing manufacturers in Europe are SNR, SKF and FAG, so a bearing from any of those should be grand. For your Golf Mk3SNR (#R154.13) and SKF (#VKBA529) should be available from motor factors in Dublin, and if not in stock they should be able to get it within 24hrs. Be careful that you dont get pawned off with a private label brand, whilst some are grand, others are of questionable quality.
