Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

because its a liscensing issue e.g. Sony use Ms products on its laptops. Even if they did somehow not grant them a liscense there would be nothing Sony could do to stop a 3rd party with a bluray liscense developing a drive for the 360 with the blessing on Ms.

Because on Gods mostly blue earth (or any of the other coloured earths he may have out there), they could never stop them.

And even if they could, never would.

Firstly, They don't own Blu-Ray, they jointly do.
Secondly, as was pointed out, they use MS products (Could you imagin buying a Sony laptop with no Windows!).
Thirdly, it would make them a lot of money, and all of their backers would slap them silly if they tried.
Fourthly, the want Blu-Ray to be the industry standard.
When Toshiba DVD's beat Sony, or when VHS beat Betamax, did that stop Sony from making VHS or DVD players?!!!

Also Tosibha make the cell processor in the PS3

Also Tosibha make the cell processor in the PS3

IBM make that ! Fishkill plant in New York , as a matter of fact , IBM make all the game console processors.
In March 2007 IBM announced that the 65 nm version of Cell BE is in production at its plant in East Fishkill, New York.[13][14]

Again in February 2008, IBM debuted that it will begin to fabricate Cell processors with the 45 nm process[15]

Its a joint IBM /Sony/Toshiba design , but its based on power architecture and thats IBM's, and its IBM who make it.

Who really cares? Not gonna make an iota of a difference right now when **** all of the overall population have a decent HD TV.
Makes a bit of difference with games alright as some 360 games are now coming on multiple DVDs.
I'll buy a PS3 fo' sure some day. However it's only just starting to find it's feet and it'll be a year anyway before there's enough quality games to warrant the purchase.
It'll be down in price by then as well anway.

Just out of interest how many people here actually know people who have a HD TV and are willing to pay 30 odd euro for Blu-Ray? Most of my friends have a PS3 and not one of them has bought a Blu-Ray movie for it yet

Well obviously blu-rays cost a little more than a standard dvd at the moment but so did dvds over vhs at the start of this century.Like everything else, once blu-ray becomes more mainstream, the price will drop right down to todays prices of normal dvds.

I know they will, look at the price of HD-DVDs now:p But how may Joe Public's have a proper HD setup, and understand anything about Blu-Ray?

I agree that the transition to bluray wont be as easy as dvd.You need a hd tv for a start and a good one if you want to get the best out of bluray. As for understanding bluray, theres nothing much to understand really, basically dvds with a breathtaking picture. Finally one needs to ask the question if people are happy with dvds and most people will tell you that they are.Give it time i'd say

All of my friends and most of my family have HD Tvs, many of them would gladly pay 30 a pop for blu-rays in a shop because they are already used to paying between 19 and 25 for normal DVDs.

Luckly they don't have to because they are bright enough to know that you can buy Blu-Rays online at Amazon.com for a fraction of the price here. Despite all the Blu-Ray region lock broohaha you hear. 99% or Warners releases are region free and a good number of other companies release region free discs too

HDTVs are everywhere now, its pretty hard to find tv's that arent HD ready although you do still need to check if its 1080p capable its not quite a given standard yet.

30 odd euro for a blu-ray would be an okay price, ive seen prices vary wildly around town some random old crap titles in HMV ar upwards of €45 which is just absurd, again prices will drop to current levels once the format becomes the norm, for the moment i generally refuse to hand over the kind of money the irish market is asking for i get most of my stuff online, amazon are not bad with more reasonable prices and pretty good selection of titles if you dont mind waiting for them to ship from the US.

anyway im just going to wait for everywhere to start trying to dump their HD-DVD movies, should be able to get some great bargains when they start flogging them for next to nothing :)

You may as well dream here as in bed

Unfortunately despite the growth of apple or the failure of Vista or a couple of eee laptops over 90% of the worlds PCs are running windows of some variety and just as ME died on its ass Windows just pushed out the next one and everyone hopped on board.

Microsoft will give Vista another year and then it will be the next OS and everyone will be back on board and windows will still have 85 to 95% of the worlds PCs
