    It depends were you're based.
There is aa good guy in Mountbellew, just across the road from the garden centre.
Theres a lovely lady in Athenry & you'll get her no. from Micaheal Burke's Hardware, I haven't seen her kennels but she never keeps many dogs.
Or try one of the big ones, Galway Kennels in Adrahan.

You could try Ami Madden of Clever Canines - it can be hard to get her on the phone though....

As for kennels, there is a place a few miles outside Claregalway which is brilliant

www.woofsandwags.org - ask for Liam and tell him Fred the Basset Hound sent you...

Have you tried Hollybarn Dog Training at www.hollybarndogtraining.com - I found her on the Internet when i had problems with my Chocolate Lab. She's a qualified veterinary nurse and works all over the West Training Dogs.

Check her out she was brilliant with us and even came to my house to help us.

    Good Luck:)

    check out http://www.madra.ie/Training.aspx

That site is for a rescue out in Connemara, but Tara who works there runs training lessons and individual consultations if you like.

We brought our puppy to her for lessons last year & they were great. Its all based on reward system.

    Hi Wombie,

I have gotten a quote off her, personally I think it is very dear but if she is that good?? I have a little yorkie and she is getting more aggressive everyday when she goes for her walk! it came to a head Tuesday when she attached a big labrador type dog. she is only 7 inches high and could easily have been ripped to bits. I dont want to get into that situation again but cant really afford much. Has anyone had a similiar experience and maybe recommend someone in Galway?

I know a lot of the posts on this are going back a while so any help is appreciated. Hoping to get her started ASAP so thanks in advance!

What kind off experience do you have? Our Border Collie is very aggressive with other dogs and we can't walk him due to this.

I'm on the same boat as you with our dog, it's very stressful walking him so we don't anymore! I am enquiring about training classes, I have heard that the Dog club (think thats what they are called), they are based on Tuam Road are good, I have been trying to get a place in the class but am finding it hard. You could try there, I know someone that brought their dog there and thought it was brilliant, can't remember how much it was but it was 2 hrs every week for 4 weeks.

I enquired about those a few weeks ago, its €100 for the four weeks. I think we might be better off getting her one to one training but she also needs socialising so not sure what to do

Maybe ask your vet, we got a list of Dog Trainers from our vet, I'm sure they'd be able to recommend one for you. don't give up on the lil divil. Our dog was dumped in our estate last year and me being me took him in, within weeks he had the house destroyed and was bold as brass, we did a one on one training with a trainer, the difference is unbelievable, it's alot of work but it's very interesting and can be enjoyable. Our trainer has since moved. But we were recommended her by our Vet. Worth a try

Also just saw in the classifieds in Advertieser about training under the doggy section, might be worth a look

Hey, sorry for late reply. the club on tuam road is galway dog club and im very active in it. If you are having any problems in getting involved or having any problems, just bring your dog along and ill get a professional to talk to you. Come on sunday at 11-1 for agility, be great for socialising aswell and ill be there. My dog problems span to no end, aggression, pulling, heedlessness, socialisation, fears and lots of them.

I would seriously consider giving the club ago, im training for competitions there myself.

The course is very good, but a little secret is come at 2 on sunday and you can try to free sessions of obedience and socialisation that deals with any problems that are made visible to the trainer and no charge until you decide to keep going. So try it out for free. go ahead! Youll enjoy it.

just ask for barry if youd like. also in response to the Vet idea, its good bt, out club is highly recommended in Glenina Vet on dublin road and ARK. Please keep away from dog listeners, its a long topic but ill be more than helpful on sunday.

    Hi.
Reading the forums searching for solutions for my eight months old Border collie Cinnamon. He is adorable with people and we exercise him at least an hour a day in the forest but he's not listening to recall, chases every car though we have fenced everything around(While in the car as well...while whinning constantly which is a nightmare)
He is barking to every passing dog as he is not used to dogs after his sister died...barks at every dog and cyclists and mums with prams and when going to town to toddlers and anything his height...so i hate taking him out more and more...but i persist. I was told the club runned on saturday but obviously this was wrong...so there we go we will be there tomorrow...for some fun we hope.(Wouf wouf says Cinnamon :p)Thanks!

    Hi Hekate,

Galway Dog Club have several courses starting in the next few weeks. There is responsible ownership and puppy classes starting on Monday 19th October and Basic Obedience starting on Tuesday 20th. If you would like any further details please email me jane@galwaydogclub.com.

We are in the process of updating the timetable and it should be done next week, but the only classes being held tomorrow are beginners and intermediate agility starting at 2.30pm. Your dog would need some basic obedience training and is too young to do agility at the moment other than the very basics, but you are more than welcome to go along.

I won't be there tomorrow but if you would like to go ask for Rachel.

    Jane.

Don't know about trainers in Galway, but google wagalot boarding kennels.
I know the lady there(Hilary) is mad about dogs and is very experienced. The place is new and looks fantastic.

Were they good with dealing with unsociable dogs that attack other dogs? Where are they based

There was a few agressive dogs there and after 4 week the improvement was impressive. Based in Galway city, they usually do them in local parks and fields. As far as i know their gathering funds to set up a club
