Thanks for that MM, great to know the months extremes around the country. Certainly has been a "typical" March!!.

Anyway, Charts below show final means and deviations are in for each of the stations for the wiley month that was March 2008:

    Temperature Means:

    FinalMarch08Temp1.jpg

In terms of absolutes, Clones and the midlands/east came in at very slightly cooler than normal, while the west faired best with regards temperature, as the chart below suggests:

    FinalMarch08Avg.jpg

With regards rainfall, all stations recieved more than 100% of their respective 61-90 averages:

Western half of the country comes in as the wettest area in absolute terms, which is no real surprise really . However, with regards average totals, the north, and more especially the east, fair worst, with the Dublin area gaining almost twice their expected totals for March:

    FinalMarch08RainAvg.jpg

So in sum, March 2008 proved to be a wet month overall, with close to normal temperautes.

With the Overall Mean finishing of at 6.4°C, Danno is champ for the second month in a row!!!

Well done Danno, you must share your knowledge with us sometime. :D

All statistics and data respect of the magnificent Met Eireann

And thanks also to Mothman also for keeping a detailed analysis going throughout the month:

Edit: Overall Irish Mean anomoly chart of 2007/2008 up to March 31st 2008:

    March0708DFA.jpg

2008 already proving to be slightly cooler so far than up to this point in 2007. In fact, an ongoing cooling trend can now be seen throughout 2008 so far. Whether this is just a temporary blip or the start of a more significant trend remains to be seen. Watch this space!!!.

Thanks guys. That chart above is very static... Has there ever been a month with such consistant temperatures?

Looks like we are not alone in experiencing average conditions for March 08.

Latest [ ( NOAA NCEP CPC CAMS anomaly temp ) , -9999 , -9999 ] Mar 2008 anomoly charts are just updated. Looks like much of Western Europe had an average month overall; warmer than the norm however over South Eastern Europe, but note the cooler than average conditions over Northern Scandinavia for March.
