Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

plenty of people think it is a good time to buy stocks, but i personally think that the market could be on a dead cat bounce, as in a bounce followed by a steeper fall. if youre planning to hold stocks long term, it is probably imo a good time to buy. search for the anglo irish bank thread for some discussion on value in irish financials

ps if me and you KNEW it was a good time to buy, i wouldnt be in work now!

It is impossible to know - but an article in the times today saying that property developers here owe the banks a 100 BILLION wouldn't inspire confidence!

I think the most worrying thing to come out of that article is the fact that 80% of all business loans last year were for property related industries. The banks look cheap now because the p/e ratios are based on last years results. The big question is what are next years earnings likely to be?

No. We could be on the edge of a major recession. I am waiting for a year or two. I have cash in my Etrade account and will wait for the right time. Buy when they are giving away great companies.

Buying shares can be heavily influenced by exchange rates.

USA shares dropped another 2.5% today.
US dollar at an all time low.

One could do worse than buy US shares....

Unfortunately I did buy some last year and they are almost 30% down now. I am considering buying more now to help offset my losses...

WOW! in trading one of the carnal rules is doubling down, i.e. throwing good money after bad. although im sure youre an investor so different rules apply. your exposed to adoulbe risk of currency fluctuations and asset fluctuations, so be careful.
