So anyone interested in next week? Open invite as always to anyone interested in the creative process. (I don't think i can put it simpler than that). Almond ring or oxford lunch? or if anyone has a better chioce for cake then put in your suggestion. (This is not 'your favourite cake to share' thread.)

sorry lads I'm off on holiday tomorrow so i wont make it this week or next :(
Hope to make it soon though! :)

Hiya, sorry couldn't make it for the first week, hope it went well. Is it on this thursday 27th again? I have a job interview that day, so not sure if I'll make it... Damn real world getting in the way of fun! I'm back online now anyway so I'll keep an eye on the thread to see what's happening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,413 ✭✭✭frobisher

Hey all, great to see this taking shape. I'll defo make it along to one of these. Looking a little tricky with Thursdays in general at the moment.

I DEFINITELY can't make next Thursday as a I have my launch gig that night. So if any off you want to join from the airing room and come up to Bewley's Theatre Bar on Grafton st you're more than welcome! More details here

I'll also have details to share soon on a new singer/songwriter night I'm running in town. It should be good. Will come back with more details as soon as.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 10,581 Mod ✭✭✭✭humberklog

No worries at all embol. good to hear from you.I haven't any set date for next night and am leaving it open to suggestions to form a consensus so if anyone is intersted them lob in a date on the thread and see where it goes.
hey frob would be very interested in going along to one of those nights. Not to play but to have a listen. If you put it on this thread also it might gain a bit of interest from people who've been keeping an eye on this thread and if one or two were to go along then it'd be good for your night and a useful network for the airing room. Well it could be. Anyone else have any thoughts?
And again just to say to anyone that has been keeping an eye on this thread or is reading for the 1st time that the airing room is as said and is open to all.

Numbers were low for the first airing room, but that's to be expected - I'll definitely go regularly if it keeps up, it's good craic.

I can make the 27th, but since there's already 2 who can't, we're probably best to postpone till the following week.

    Thoughts?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 10,581 Mod ✭✭✭✭humberklog

Hey Jack good to hear from you. How many easter eggs did you get? Yeah definately give the 27th a miss as numbers aren't making sense. I'm personally not against a saturday or sunday, day or evening.

How would people be about a saturday afternoon? It would save any milling about and it would make it easier for people outside of dublin (or the country as we call it)to come. If it was too big distance for a same day return journey i can accommodate 1 person for the night.

Hey j,no didn't do anything at weekend about airing room. I'm leaving it open to suggestions from good people like yourself for the time of next one. I didn't mean any particular weekend,it was just to say i'd do it on weekends(could be a bit handier for some). This coming saturday is a busy one for me but any other time should be do-able.
So anyone wanting to come by and when?

I can do (and will be doing) tomoro(wed)or thur.
As usual this is an open evening for anybody that is reading this and fancy's playing their music in a comfortable relaxed atmosphere

hey man, yeah I'm polishing some tunes off at the mo..hopefully pop up to ya in the not too distant future!

hey folks, iv just stumbled upon this thread now, i was lookin for some website that i could post up lyrics and stuff and hear feedback, but the airing room sounds like a far better, more worthwhile idea!

has it been going ahead or, is it still in the pipeline? im a budding lyricist(i think) and can play guitar, but for some reason im having a terrible time stringing the two things together - probably due to lack of singing skills, but id like to come along to the airing room, and air some opinions, sit down and play or even to just watch and see how other people work - iv tried jammin with friends in the past but i never seem to feel like it gets me anywhere. some progress would be fun...

This has to be done folks....time to get the finger out! I'll have my car back next week.......hopefully.....so pick a time and date!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 10,581 Mod ✭✭✭✭humberklog

Yep it's fingers out and get these tunes playing. Looks as though a few people interested too. Mada?(don't worry if the tunes only nearly there,so are half mine), Rosa? Dream? Ken.m? Jack? Whoever else wants too, just jump in with a day. Any evening suits here between now and next weekend (9th-ish). I wouldn't mind doing one this week but I'll leave days to be sorted by collective response. So get posting your prefered day. This weekend is fine with me also. Hey dream what are you bringing that you need a car?

  • Registered Users Posts: 405 ✭✭dream brother

I'll bring the only thing I need....myself....I live in Navan so the whole walking to you doesnt really work!

No prob, sure just keep an eye on thread for one that's at a time that suits you. I've no problem having it in mine. It's my own apartment in islandbridge so there's zero hassle. Have a bit of recording equipment too, nothing fancy. Getting near barBq weather too and I've a big balcony, hmmm. Given me an idea.
So anyone for this week or weekend?

With such a fab weather I'm gonna be out on balcony playing away this evening all night. If anyone wants to kick back and knock a few tunes around with a glass of wine in a relaxed atmosphere then your more than welcome. Some of you already have my phone number and you can give me a text to let me know. I feel inspired after watching jack dev and frobisher do their thing in Whelans last night. Excellent work all round chaps.

You never know! I just can't figure out if my stuff is sh*te. Not to take anything away from the enjoyment i get from it but that doesn't mean to say it wouldn't make other peoples ears burn.
But well done again Frobisher. Great sound in that venue last night. The Babecounter was through the roof too! But so was the skinny jeans on men (gotta watch that).

Cracking evening Oink, excellent. I'm out tracking down my nylon string at moment as you've inspired me to go more funky. Loosen up a bit. Was rfefreshing to hear a bit of Gil Scott Heron style. Drop by again anytime. I'm sure I'll see you around Temple Bar. I'm usually throwing stones at that twat Dave Macsavage around there (really!).

Quite enjoyed that myself I have to say, it was quite fun. I'll drop by again soon! Will give you a buzz. Let me know if anything is happening.

Also, you get extra points as the first person I know in Ireland who's heard of Keziah Jones.

Regarding whatshisname... My lawyer says I don't gots nut'in to say on the subject.

You can add me to that list :-) In fact, I reviwed his first album for amagazine about 10 years ago. Some great stuff.

Oink: Are you a funk guitarist?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 2,159 Mod ✭✭✭✭Oink

Pff... I wish. But I love Funk/Soul/Afro-beat, so I do try to sound kinda funky.

In my head it I play like Keziah Jones, I sing like Sly, and the JB's are my backup band. But you know...

EDIT: I feel less alone now that I've found more KJ fans. It was cold out there !

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 10,581 Mod ✭✭✭✭humberklog

Anyone up for popping over this week? Tonight, tomorrow and thursday suits here. Won't be around weekend. So if you fancy popping over and have my number then give me a call or if not then stick your name up and I'll pm ph.no.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 2,159 Mod ✭✭✭✭Oink

Sounds like a plan. tomorrow or Thursday sounds more like it. Let's talk tomorrow, depending on what the weather looks like.

Tomorrow would be best with me too Oink. I'll give you a call at some point in afternoon. Anyone else?
    Any cellists out there? I got a tune going that needs a cello...and a theremin...and a xylaphone.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 2,159 Mod ✭✭✭✭Oink

    Don't forget the cowbell.:D

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 10,581 Mod ✭✭✭✭humberklog

Your flippin right though oink, if someone brought a cow bell that'd be brilliant.
As said before and will be said each time in future...anyone interested in popping along? The evening is hard to describe as it's anything you want it to be. If you're reading this and a wondering if I'm directing this at you personally...the answer is , Yes.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 2,159 Mod ✭✭✭✭Oink

That was fun H. ! I'll try and remember the words of that half-song I wrote a while back, to play it next time. Might inspire me to finish it...

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 10,581 Mod ✭✭✭✭humberklog

You do that oink, get the finger out and sharpen up a pencil! Good fun last night. Bring a bit of something and see what happens cos, I tellsya, i'd all but walked away from that tune ("a low hum barely audible") for a lotta reasons. I knew it was a good tune but the fire of imagination on it had started to wane. But your open thoughts has led to a really good encouragement within me and a fresh new determination to finally nail it. (Bingo! that's the purpose of the airing room!). So I'll get a few more words on that for next time too( and practice pronouncing them clearer). Even though the working title is 'a low hum barely audible' doesn't mean 'singer must mumble'. Gonna stick with those couple of lines and build around it, far more sure of direction on it(and worth of it) now after last night.
Gonna try and brush up on a cover we could muck about with too...liked playing a few Rufus Wain. last night so gonna see about bringing on 'Oh what a world' as it has that whole Ravel thing going on to keep it interesting.
Feckin love hearin you play that nylon.

Will this be a regular thing? I'd like to come to the next one. I can bring an acoustic bass guitar?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 2,159 Mod ✭✭✭✭Oink

    Are you kidding?

Can you please bring an acoustic bass if you have one !!! :D

EDIT - in reply to H : Sounds good. I think playing a cover now and then could keep us going. now for the Bolero, good luck with that.... ! I'd say it'll work better after a bottle of wine or three.

Don't knock the wine! It's a coping mechanism.
Absolutely papa smutt. All welcome, just bring an open mind and a tune or two.

    hey to all,

Ive been writing lyrics for the past year or so, albeit very badly. Love writing and finishing something, but its rare that i find music that suits the mood. if that makes sense?

would love to come to one of the nights, maybe not to share any of my lyrics just yet but to get a few ideas, and hopefully learn something on the way.

    Lorna
