Temporary .com domain

    I'm working on a website at the moment but I need to get some documentation sorted out before I can register an .ie domain. I was thinking about registering a .com temporarily and developing the site under that, then switching over to the .ie when (if) I get it. It's just for testing so I'm not worried about having to redirect the .com to the .ie afterwards.
    Am I likely to have any problems with this? Is this something people commonly do?

    There's no reason why you should have any problems with this. You can have as many domains as you like pointing to the one site. The radio station I work for, for example, has the .com, .ie, .org, and .net all pointing to the same place (you still end up at the .com).

    Just make sure that the domain extension isn't part of the site's name.

    If it's just for testing, you mightn't even need to do that; check with your hosting company to see if you can temporarily host it via an IP address + subdirectory;

    e.g.
    http://servername.hostingcompany.ie/~yourtemporaryname OR
    http://193.XXX.XXX.XXX/~yourcompanyname
