Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A quick and simple question... What do you regard as good shooting with a .22lr?

What sort of grouping should I be shooting at 60yards and 100yards to be satisfied that Im shooting well?

Well, last time I grouped my .22lr I was getting just above 1/2 inch groups at 60 and around the inch mark at 100 yards. I'm happy enough with that for the kind of shooting I do (which isn't much lately!).

It depends on the rifle, the sights and the weather conditions. On a calm day with a iron sights it's not too hard to keep every shot within an inch diameter ring (ISSF 9 ring) at 50m. Magnifying sights should tighten that further. Johngalway's numbers sound about right.

Wind, poor light and lashing rain make a big difference though. :D

Yea anything under 1.5 inches at 100yrds is pretty good at that range!
.5 of an inch a 50 is the norm there!

Too right they do! I won't get the results in the field that I do when I'm out zeroing or popping the odd target but I choose my shots when I'm hunting.

Was out Saturday (.22wmr), shooting rabbits, misty rain and strong gusts. Fired 4 shots at one rabbit and he didn't even know he was being shot at. 80 yds and I was high, low, left and right, I could see where every shot was hitting with the wet grass, the rabbit was oblivious, he eventually strolled off !!! Same thing happened 5 minutes later, 3 shots at 60yds, he wasn't even moving so I presumed I had him, walked up to within 10yds and he ran off, not a hair gone off him !!
Came back to the house to check out my zero, got my first 2 shot's within 1.5inches at ~60yds and the 3rd on the bullseye.

So I successfully identified the problem with my gun.... me !!!!!! :p
I find it very hard to get a proper rest in the field, can't keep the gun steady, especially with rabbit's, them feckers are so small !!
