This also holds true for the conservation of energy, so that

    >> (1/2*m*v^2 = 1/2*m*v^-2) so you can make the same arguing point. You may assume no energy is lost in the reaction to outside influences (heat, light, sound, etc.) unless the question specifies there is energy lost in the reaction.
Well if energy of gun is equal to the energy of the bullet then you are saying that the kinetic energy of the bullet is the same as that of the guns but it isn't?

You see the Conservation of Energy has being misused here.
TOTAL ENERGY BEFORE = TOTAL ENERGY AFTER
Chemical Energy stored in Bullet = Kinetic of Gun + Kinetic of Bullet + sound/heat/etc.

But, by means of example, one can see that the kinetic energies are not necessarily split 50:50 between bullet and gun.

Kinetic Energy depends on both mass and velocity. But as a previous poster said the velocity is the primary factor as it is squared. I would suggest that is why the question stated much greater than.

As for answer I wouldn't be sure what to write down!

What's the remainder theorem? Is it on the LC course?

    Is it that x-k thingy??

aye that is precisely it! dont sound so shocked ok, chill!

Aaah right. When I say xn, I mean x^n

    So let f(x) = ax3 + bx2 + cx + d

    Then f(k) = ak3 +bk2 +ck + d

    f(x) - f(k) = ax3 + bx2 + cx + d - [ ak3 +bk2 +ck + d ]

    f(x) - f(k) = a(x3 - k3) + b(x2 - k2) + c(x - k)

    f(x) - f(k) = a(x - k)(x2 + xy + k2) + b(x - k)(x + k) + c (x - k)

    f(x) - f(k) = {x - k}[a(x2 + xy + k2) + b(x + k) + c]

    Thus, x - k is a factor of f(x) - f(k)

    If f(k) = 0, then x - k is a factor of f(x)

Typing maths is so awkward. Who wants to prove the product rule? :p

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,583 ✭✭✭alan4cult

    Right product rule:

    y = uv
    ln(y) = ln(uv)
    ln(y) = ln(u) + ln(v)
    d/dx ln(Y) = d/dx ln(u) + d/dx ln(v)
    1/y(dy/dx) = 1/u(du/dx) + 1/v(dv/dx)
    dy/dx = y/u(du/dx) + y/v(dv/dx)
    dy/dx = uv/u(du/dx) + uv/v(dv/dx)
    dy/dx = v(du/dx) + u(dv/dx)

Who wrote the poem "Gealt?" ?

That proof looks lovely. We did it the f(x+h) way. It's a big mess.

They will accept the integration way?

take it up with your teacher by all means...

    I'll have another stab:

TOTAL ENERGY BEFORE = TOTAL ENERGY AFTER

Chemical Energy = Kinetic Energy [+ loss]

The 2 bodies, are acted on by the same force: the explosion of the round in the chamber, (denoted by 1/2*m*v*^2).

Basic physics (you can use a number of formulas to show it but its common sense) would show that if the same force acts on a large body (relatively) and a small body, it requires less energy to accelerate the smaller mass. In this case, the bullet. Hence if the same force were to act equally on both masses, the inherited velocity of the smaller mass (bullet) would be greater than that of the larger mass (gun).

I cant answer this one!!:mad::mad: What is is physics?? Heres one this is a quote from which L.C poet

    'Wie war das moglich?'

    And what does it mean......

  • Registered Users Posts: 605 ✭✭✭Crania

To answer Timans' question first. The factors that affect PED are:
-the Number of Substitute Goods Available
-the percentage of income spent on the product
-whether the good is a neccessity or a luxury
    -Goods in Joint Demand
    -Durabilty of Product
Can't remember anymore of them, there's another two I think

In response to the last poster, Niamhd164, 'Wie war das Moglich?' was said by John Montague, can't remember the name of the poem though. It was the one with the images of the war on the screen which he saw as a child or something like that. It means 'How was that possible?'

I guess it's my turn to ask a question. History: Mention two ways in which Lyndon B. Johnson escalated the Vietnam war?

    1. Through the passing of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution 1964.

Dell is an example of an MNC in Ireland and they employ 4500 nationwide. 3300 in Limerick alone, the largest production site outside of the USA, absolutely unbelievable!

Next question. Economics: Define National Income.

National income is the total income earned by the residents of a country in one year.

    Define limiting friction.

Limiting friction is the maximum ammount of friction that can be called into play. i can't remember what that means but i remember that definition. haven't done statics in a while.

What are the factors affecting Price Elasticity of Demand?

    PED is affected by:

Durability of Good (more durable, more inelastic)
Consumer Loyalty (more loyal customers, more inelastic)
Expensive Goods (more expensive, more elastic)
Speculation as to further price increases (more speculation more elastic)

not sure if that last one is correct and i can't remember the other ones

    full definition is better:

National Income is the income which accrues to the perminant residants of a country through current economic activity over a certain period of time which is usually one year. It is also call Net National Product at Factor Cost.

I have a question for all the physicists:
What is the differenc between Thermionic Emmision and Photoelectric Emission and give an expression for The Photoelectric Effect.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 773 ✭✭✭Cokehead Mother

Thermionic emission is the emission of electrons from the surface of a hot metal.

The photoelectric effect is the emission of electrons from a metal due to light a sutaible frequency falling on it.

    hf = O + Max kinetic energy

    where h = plank's constant
f = frequency of the light
    O = work function

In English, what is "Oíche Nollaig na mBan"?
