What a great time we had - even though we lost!
There was a great turnout as well.
The wee man managed to have a kick about on the pitch with a wee boy from Cork, after the final whistle of course. We tried to get him off the pitch but he was busy telling the players a thing or two.
We also had a great laugh with the Cork supporters.
I do hope they have more day time matches.

Sounds like it was good fun alright!

Wish I could have been there. I'll have to try and wrangle one last game before we go.

anyone hear any details of the syndicate draw at the match against cork, the draw was supose to be then, but heard some one say it had been put back till the end of the month, which would only leave a couple of weeks before the liverpool v utd match which is what the draw is for

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,346 ✭✭✭darealtulip

didnt hear anything about the draw, our boy played on the pitch against a wee cork city boy, the players came out and had a wee chat with them aswell

No, he had a kick about after the match, how does he become mascot?

not sure tbh, thought there was something about it on the website, had a quike browse, but couldn't see anything, only thing i can suggest is maybe calling into the front office to the right of the turnstyles, they might be able to give some info

I went to bray wanderers friday, crap result. I hate draws!! anyway we had a great time in bray though. we stayed for a night. ramada had rooms for 85 euro with three beds zo that was 28 each!! good pubs etc. Sligo was playing badly and so were the wanderers. there were hardly bray supporters so how can it be we are in such a financal mess and they aren't?

not sure if a factor, could could be their proxcimity to the capital,

more chance of sponsorship, plus better chance of a higher sponsorship income with more companies competing to get their names on the shirts or positioned around the grounds

more exposure in the media and community, due to location and population, ie, TV money

plus there being more teams located in dublin and surounding areas, means less traveling for away fixtures therefore lower costs assoicated with transport and acomadation for such fixtures

    :(

Plus there are a good few rovers fans living in or around dublin, like myself you mainly just get to games up here.

as well as what stew said, being beside dublin makes it easier for them to get players without having to pay through the nose plus they are a part time club with some full time players so their wages would be less, i think they generally get better gates than they might have the other night, end of season turn outs are usually smaller less to play for(they should be safe at this point)!?

Im afraid Sligo are in the mess due to mismanagment at board level, Bray board might be smarter?
Big draw recently was not advertised on there web site (in fact was it advertised at all?)
Board rely on word of mouth and good will a bit too much im afraid
They were originally against the Legends game, last team an english/scottish team played a friendly? even a small club?
    etc etc

Any word on the poker?, couldnt make it!

"The club is now appealing to all the people of Sligo and beyond to come along to fill The Showgrounds for our next two home games against Drogheda United on August 30th and Bohemians on September 5th.

We are also asking all those who normally pay the €15 entry fee, season ticket holders, committee members, stewards, press, and anyone who comes to the next two home games to make a €20 voluntary contribution to the club (this excludes, OAPs, students and children). "

So they are asking people who dont normaly go to games to come to fill the ground in one para while in the next they are asking people to pay 35 quid on the door.
That is really gonna to appeal to non regulars and before anyone (from club or otherwise) replies saying its voluntary fella in fronts pays 35 yer average person is gonna feel embarrased into paying the same, which COULD
    A) Make them think about not going, to avoid embarrasment
    B) Make those who do show up for the first time in ages feel aggrived at paying so much.

+ the casual observers feeling of wanting to help the club might not reach to 70 quid for 2 end of season games with little to play for

They are complaining about not enough money being raised when they knew that the money was needed from the start of the season, if they had given people a few months extra notice to collect money.

I fear a lot of regular fans who are working to save the club will wash their hands of it when this is over (as happened before)

    Clever! real clever!!!

This thread hasn't been active in a while. Just went to the Rovers website and it is giving the team news for the Bohs game on Fri. No mention regarding the financial situation, are they out of hot water or are things so bad they won't mention it right now? The deadline has expired. Has it been extended?

I was wondering myself this morning and I was going to check out the website today - now you saved me the bother.

If you find anything, will you let us know?

Did anybody go to the last match and pay €20 extra?

I was a real hero and spent 90 :)(joined a synd before in pub)
was feeling good about it until the the TWO dodgy peno decisions in last 4 mins
+ goal should probably been allowed if peno wasnt given:mad:

When I told a few people that the gaaa were running somethng in MAR park at same time the general consensus was that they probably did it out of spite, its good when the kids get along ;)

    ++++++++++++
    Am I hearing right about
"er um we were never really that bad er um we we needed running money not all for debts et um er um and we want more now"

AND not one word of thanks to anyone apparently

AS for the EXTRA 20 apparently it was worded wrong, they only wanted 5 extra
Gave the extra 20 anyhu, was feeling charity-able (and boozy)

THEY do like chasing away hardcore support at that club!

The weather has been no worse than usual in the west:(, the pitch while having the worst surface anywhere this side of a moon landing has the best drainage in the league so it really should not be a problem

first word of any change would probably be

I think they still need more money. The money they have raised so far (I heard it was €70k) is keeping them going past the 31st August deadline. They are not out of hot water.

was slightly confused by that my self, i would not have paid an extra €20, and would have been very put off had there been any pressure to, but had no issue paying €20 to get in

the ref was a disgrace, some very bad calls, was allowing the players to get away with far to much at times, the positioning of the ball for free kicks, etc,

although was disapointed with sligo at times, after a fantastic opening, a very soft goal was given away, it it took them a long time to recompose them selfs, altough a very solid perforfnace in the second half, altough still clear to see some key players missing

    Welcome to sligo rovers fella!

Stew, We have 4-5 nippy players who like playing/running off a holding Centre forward, we dont have a CF at the moment, probably wont until next season

Bohs when they go ahead, sit behind the ball and let others come on to them, for all our play we could have been there till tuesday and would have made no difference

The goal, nothing wrong with it but big scramble goals are never given anymore in any league, to much chance that the ref missed something i suppose so they play it safe:mad:
