Is that based on the grouping? Didn't think they had been decided yet. How is that grouping worked out do you know?

Yep, the groups were released this afternoon http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/news/newsid=1650609.html

It's all based on co-efficients, dont know much more than that.

What ever happened to just one big pot, and draw them out one by one, and who ever you get, you get, rather than seeds and now groupings.

This is just UEFAs way of seeing that only the big money making clubs get in.

    :(

Anyone on here planning on making the trip to Ukraine?

  • Registered Users Posts: 29,293 ✭✭✭✭Mint Sauce

Well we're definatly off to the Ukraine now, unless Glentoran can now score 4.

Just checking the LOI fixtures list and we have an away trip to Dundalk right after the second leg is played.

Hope the second leg is at the showgrounds otherwise that game could be seriously tough after a trip to the Ukraine. :(

First leg is away on the 28th July. 2nd leg is at home on the 4th.

Poltava now lead Glentoran 5 nil on Aggregate.

Should have about 100 fans over in Ukraine by the sounds of it. 90% sure there will be a live stream of the game next Thursday too, check this site the day of the game or go around a few of the pubs in town, I know Connollys, Foleys and Mooneys showed the Albanian game 2 years back. Game will probably kick off at 6pm Irish time (8pm local time).

The home leg kicks off at 5.45pm btw. Don't forget we have Pat's on Saturday first though, massive game.

Anyone looking for 2 tickets pm me.

As per this weeks Champion, Fiddlers Creek, Mooneys, The Ship Inn, Connollys, O'Neils, and The Owenmore Inn in Collooney have all confirmed they will be showing the match. Kick off 6pm.

Kick off has been confirmed for 5.45pm for the home game next week.

    Well done lads, so far.
Bit of a dangerous result, though.
Raffaele had two good chances, he should've put away at least one. An away goal is so important these days.

    Well done to Sligo Rovers.
A massive result along with Shamrock Rovers!
Best of luck to both clubs in the return leg.

    Great result!

Keeping a clean sheet in an away leg of a euro game is no mean feat for an LOI side.

    c'mon the bit o'red!!!!

Fantastic result, shame about the two disallowed goals though, the second one was very questionable.

Lets hope all the businesses in Sligo get behind Rovers now on Thurs. with red and white flags all over town. It's the least they can do.

Vorskla had an away game on the Saturday after our visit and won. So with any luck Rovers might be the fresher of the two sides on Thursday.

The way I see it, concentrate on keeping it tight for an hour or so and don't concede the away goal. After that the combination of the long trip and having had to play a weekend game might cause the Vorskla players to run out of steam.

There's a lesson in the Shams game against Copenhagen as well. Shams went hell for leather in the first half hour then just fell away. Obviously they needed a goal, but patience and discipline are vital in european games. They displayed neither.

    :D Final point....

Vorskla beat Benfica in the home leg of a europa qualifier two years ago. They still went out after getting hammered in Lisbon, but that makes Rovers' 0-0 score out there all the more impressive imo!

    It seems quiet here.

They were outplayed all night long.

Not being harsh but they were obviously a far better team. Good effort by the lads and they'll come on for the experience.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,654 ✭✭✭AllGunsBlazing

Well so much for my hopes of us keeping it tight for the first hour or so. :(

Results this week showed that sadly no LOI side can keep up with a decent european outfit over two legs.

More positives than negatives for Rovers though - that draw out in the Ukraine was another proud achievement in the history of the club. There's also the improvements made to the Showgrounds for this adventure which will benefit the club for years to come. Overall the profile of Sligo Rovers has been raised in the last week and a half.

And who knows, we might be playing in a Champions League qualifier next year instead of the europa.:p

3 points against Dundalk on Sunday will go a long way towards making that a reality. C'mon the bit o'red!

there wage budget is 7 million a year, our total expenditure last year was just over a million. we were bet by the better team but our lads played a blinder over two legs.
