    Hi Peeps,

I had something in mind for a PC but after speaking and chatting thats gone out the window. Was going to be based on AMD QUad for many reasons lots of them misconceived.

So, what would you recommend for me to get for a new PC when I have €1000 to spend.

Now, a few things. I don't need a Monitor, Keyboard or Mouse (or any peripherals) as I already have a PC and this is to be PC No2 (well more like PC No50 but I've only one atm :))
Second is that I really want a quiet PC. So my I'm pretty certain I want the Antec P180SE, or the P182 (Very quiet case, great set up and sound proofing) I already have one and they are great. If someone knows of a better one for same price or similar for cheaper fair enough. Tell me :D
Third, I dont exactly need a HD as I have a few but if there is cash left over I'll get one

Ok, so its a gaming PC. I had my heart set of 2x HD3800 series Was thinking about the HD3850 512Mb (as the HD3870 is just the HD3850 overclocked) but some advise would be great

Also, I really don't care if I have to buy each part separate just worried about the MB and RAM working together

    Any thoughts and advice?

    Why Crossfire?

A single 8800gts 512mb is probably the best bang for buck atm

Heres a rig I priced the other day..

    Core 2 Quad Q6600
    8800gts 512mb
    4gigs Mushkin PC6400
    500gig Hitachi Deskstar T7K500
    Shuttle XPC SP35P2 Pro
    DVD/RW

1090 including shipping, If you dont want a shuttle, then you could save a few euro by buying the case / mobo / psu seperate, but the Shuttle is where its at :)

    €1000 huh...

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 €200
    ASUS Maximus Formula, Sockel 775, X38 €189
    2 X GeForce 9600GT 680M ,512MB DDR3 €280
    Samsung HD501LJ 500GB €78
    4096MB DDR2 Corsair Twin2X, PC6400 €84
    Corsair VX550W 550 Watt €67
    Antec P180 €107

    €1050 delivered...

2 X 9600gt wipes the floor with a single 8800gts, while costing about the same...

    It even beats the €400 Ultra's/Ati HD3870X2

You can't implement SLI on X38.

Edit: I'm guessing you meant the Asus Striker Formula?

@ Dara - What size monitor do you have, and what resolution do you game at mate?

My bad, yep it was the striker or the great value Asus P5N-E..

Dara seems to want to go crossfire/sli for some reason, I would just get a 512mb 8800GT myself...

atm its 19" but that will change. Planning on getting a 21 or larger screen. But later. As for res, no idea. I'm more into preformance of my games than having a huge screen. I prefer to play at 1200 and have a higher fps than 2200+ and have a lower
As for my desktop, its at 1280 atm but thats the highest it will go. Do I really need larger? :)
    tbh I dont care. I'm a gamer.

Anyone know of any reviews that pit x2 HD3870 512 Vrs x2 of the latest Nvidia cards?

If you are going down the route of dual graphics cards get 2 x 9600's Many benchmarks are showing them just as fast or faster then a 8800 Ultra. And for 130-140€ per card its a bargain.

What are they like compared to the HD3870's? anyone know of any benchmarks that compare the 2x HD3870's, 2x 9600's and 2x 8800's?

Yep they are unreal, they can put a spanking to an 8800Ultra in the most GPU demanding games...Considering you can also overclock the core on each off them by say 50mhz and memory by 100mhz with ease, you have a monster for €270...

It's the only SLI configuration that makes total sense to me....

    Few tests below...

Pc you can build for under €1000 delivered with those cards..

Wow, the GeForce 9600 GT looks seriosly impressive. Does it have any draw backs? I also could not find what shader model it is.
