went to see a great film with my kids yesterday:)

experience of the cinema was terrible - thought it was poor in the past (customer service, hygiene etc) but it was a complete joke yesterday:eek:

it is such a shame given that it is our only cinema and a great new building with many screens - but, so badly run.......

Haven't gone in a while; it is very overpriced, tickets must be approaching 10Euro now? The price of snacks and sweets is extortionate aswell!
Aside from that what are your actual gripes with the place? I've always found it to be a good experience- clean, comfy etc.

If your bringing kids, they do a Kids Club on Sundays at 12. Adults are free and its e3 for each child. The smell is bad, I agree. As for the snacks, I carry a LARGE handbag.

Btw, keep an eye out for pervs. I complained once, and they laughed at me. They said "maybe he's got an itch". He was masturbating. At a kids movie.

    Agree on the handbag....

As for the perv, I'd have called the gardai. That's disgusting, and the cinema's attitude to it was too.

Yep, took the kids out, complained, got laughed at, got abuse from the kids, rang Guards, went home, never heard another thing about it.

A few weeks ago my girls Dad took her to a movie, and again, a lone man watching a kids movie.

The cinema is gone to hell i'm afraid!

A few years ago another developer wanted to open a multiplex at carraroe.
The guy who owns the Gaiety was up in arms saying that "this town isn't big enough for the two of us..."
He had to upgrade the gaiety and did so but after they got the new cinema stopped they obviously didn't bother with the upkeep of it.

    Shame!

Last time I was there I went late night and some carer brought in people she was looking after and they all fell asleep behind me and were snoring the whole way through the film. Really enjoyable.

Alot of the staff don't seem to give a crap about the place, no competition in town but if I lived in east sligo i'd prob head to carrick.

Not really the staffs problem there, to be fair.

I slept through the entire 43 hours of The Aviator.

Apologies to everyone there on the night.

I like it, go once or twice a month. Not too overprices, seats are always comfy enough.

Sometimes get a few twats making noise and stuff. But overall I've never had many problems.

Well if you could sleep through a Robert Redford movie, then despite popular opinion, you are indeed, a man.

I have laid the matter to rest .... let there be no more confusion.

No, I mentioned the word "Movie" in my post, so technically not off topic.

Yeeeeeah, but we want a better cinema... one with 40 screens, plug in air fresheners and Special Branch Officers as ushers. Not too much to ask is it..??

I blame the NDP, the Seven Sisters, Roma beggers and Argos.

    Shame!

There used to be two cinemas in Sligo in the fifties and sixties, plus one in Ballymote, Tubber and somewhere else I think.

(helping my sister with a project-involves looking at old Sligo Champions.)

There is a mobile cinema but it badly needs to visit more areas, like Geevagh because nothing ever happens here! It goes to Tubbercurry AFAIK so why not this end of the county?

I haven't been to Sligo cinema for years as it was full of under age kids who shouted, slurped and crunched through most of the films I went to see. Now, when I do go to the cinema, I go to Carrick on Shannon, and it's a lovely cinema.

Yes theres a mobile cinema. Used to be called Reels on Wheels now relaunched....(basquille your a film head do you know? ) Its a Leitrim thing that expanded into Sligo. Hope its not a charitable venture looking for funds...
Best tell them not to take the van up the Sligo way.;)

If you go to a big movie, especially the first week or two it's on, it's terrible. Ill mannered teens texting and making phonecalls. They walk around between the screens. They throw stuff, I got hit on the head with popcorn a few times. They were throwing it everywhere. They only stopped when they realised my friend was holding me back and saying "Don't. You'll go to prison. They're only kids."
There's no ushers and the place is filthy. It reeks of multiple layers of middle management with nobody accountable and nobody to be accountable to.
    Otherwise, it's great:)
