Resting Heart Rate

Just wondering what people's resting heart is?

I am currently training for a marathon and triathlon and my resting heart rate is 40bpm. Is that very low or about right for the amount of training?

I only started training in Jan for a tri in May, and mines' about 52.
I'd be interested in the science of whether a lower heart rate is better.
The standard average being about 70 IIRC

Who knows what amount of training you are doing? Some people train 40+ hours a week, some 4.

As for resting heart rates they tell you nothing really. Its not an indicator of how fit you are or anything of the like. Resting heart rates can be used as an indicator for overtraining but its not reliable. (Variance in R-R can tell that though and is reliable.)

Train about 10-12 hours per week.

    What is 'Variance in R-R'?

In a normal person the time between heart beats varies alot.
In an overtrained person the time between heart beats does not vary. Its, I'm lead to believe, the best indicator of overtraining.

    By R-R I meant the "inter-beat interval"
