Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

Not sure if this is the right forum, but I figure mobile BB users will be more likely to be looking here than the mobiles forum so here goes.

As I understand, the mobile modems come with a new SIM and as such actually have a number assigned to them - correct? I have briefly used an O2 modem and recall seeing something about SMS on the menu. Is it possible to send SMS messages from the modem SIM via the computer? More importantly, is it possible to receive messages to the SIM and to read these onto the computer?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    C

Yes, you can use a mobile phone Modem to send/receive SMS on your PC.
The modem can either be a phone acting as a modem or a USB, PCMCIA or ExpressCard datacard type modem.

A modem in a router (Draytek, Dlink, Netgear, Linksys etc..) can only do internet data, not usually SMS.

Some modems can be used with laptop mic/speaker for actual GSM or 3G voice calls. Not usually the USB type, but the OEM module fitted in some laptops / gadgets. (Not usally miniPCI, but only proprietary modules).

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to borrow the O2 modem for a day and have a play. What I'm trying to do is integrate received SMS texts into a computer application. I'll let you know if I make any progress...

    Cheers,
    C

You need a programming API. The supplied software won't let you do that.
