Royal New Zealand Air Force, up until two years ago (when it elected a labour govt) NZ also had a fighter squadron.


Aircraft

• Six P-3K Orions are operated in the maritime patrol mission. Five were originally delivered in 1966 as P-3Bs. Another was purchased from the RAAF in 1985, following which all were upgraded to their current standard.
• Five SH-2G(NZ) Seasprites were purchased in 1997 for operation from the RNZN's new Anzac class frigates. Although these are navy aircraft, they are operated and maintained by the RNZAF.
• Three Beechcraft B200 King Airs were leased by the RNZAF in 1998, with a further two leased in 2000. These are used in the multi-engined training role.
• Two Boeing 757-200s are operated in the fast air transport role.
• Five C-130H Hercules are operated in the air transport role. Three were delivered in 1966, with a further two in 1969.
• The UH-1H Iroquois is the most numerous operational aircraft in the RNZAF inventory, with 14 units in service.
• 13 Pacific Aerospace CT-4E Airtrainers were leased by the RNZAF in 1998 to serve as the air force's basic flying trainer.
• Five Bell 47 Sioux are in service as basic helicopter trainers. Five Agusta A109 helicopters will be acquired to replace the Sioux.[3]
• Eight NH90 helicopters have been purchased by the Ministry of Defence for $771 million, including costs for parts and services. Expected to be operational in New Zealand from 2010, they will replace the Iroquois.

In addition a historic flight maintains airworthy Harvard and Tiger Moth trainers.

HMNZS Te Kaha



HMNZS Canterbury, the new MRV commissioned in June 2007. This was the first ship completed in Project Protector.


The naval combat force currently consists of two Anzac Class frigates: HMNZS Te Kaha and HMNZS Te Mana. Both ships are based at the Devonport Naval Base on Auckland's North Shore. Te Kaha was commissioned on 26 July 1997 and Te Mana on 10 December 1999.
The specifications and armaments of the two ships are identical.[3][4]

HMNZS Endeavour is the fleet tanker. She provides fuel and other supplies for the frigates when they are on international operations, and for allied ships should this be required. HMNZS Canterbury, the RNZN's new Multi-Role Vessel entered service in June 2007.[5]

The hydrographic survey ship of the RNZN is HMNZS Resolution. Resolution is used to survey and chart the sea around New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. She was formerly the United States Navy USNS Tenacious, used to tow sonar arrays to detect enemy submarines. A small motor boat, Adventure, is operated from Resolution. Her home port is the city of Gisborne. Resolution carries some of the most advanced survey technology available.[6]

New Zealand decided in 2003 to replace its existing fleet of M113 Armored Personnel Carriers, purchased in the 1960s, with the NZLAV [1], and the M113s were decommissioned by the end of 2004. An agreement made to sell the M113s via an Australian weapons dealer in February 2006 had to be cancelled when the US State Department refused permission for New Zealand to sell the M113s under a contract made when the vehicles were initially purchased. [2]
The replacement of the M113s with the General Motors LAV III (NZLAV) led to a review in 2001 on the purchase decision-making by New Zealand's Auditor-General. The review found short-comings in the defence acquisition process but not the eventual vehicle selected.





Tactical air transport for the army is provided by No. 3 Squadron of the RNZAF.
In the event of full mobilisation and deployment, the three infantry battalions plus the other necessary combat elements would form a brigade group, which exists on paper as 7 Brigade. HQ 2 Land Force Group would, if needed, form HQ 7 Brigade
In addition to the combat units shown in the figure, the Land Operations Training Centre encompasses the main army trade schools:

I mean that a larger % of the budget is spent on salaries... i dont need a link go look at any of the official military sites.. irish army, english army, american army.. The average salary for irish troops is greater

As far as I am aware the best paid soldiers in the world are those who work on contracts in various ME countries.

You expect for someone to give a link to every single pay detail for every rank in existence for the Irish army and others!look it up and you will see for yourself if you find an official,reliable link that compares EVERY SINGLE NATIONAL ARMED FORCE and their details, please do so since you are on this about 5 times a day.But the facts clearly state that Ireland's troops are better paid then the 'top' armed forces in the world.

Oh by the way people are still waiting for you to back up your facts that Saudi Arabia's forces are the best paid in the world (or the recently edition to your post; soldiers contracted in various ME countries)

I know for a fact officers in various oil rich ME regimes are very well paid.

And the fact those working on contracts in the ME are very well paid without paying tax is well known.

I believe the salary for colonel in Chief of the Sultan of Omans Special forces is around £ 300k per year.
