Is listening to Lyric FM streaming and what bandwidth would it use? I remember having a comparision of bandwidth used by radio/downloading movies etc but i cannot find the link. It says 32. kbps [kilobytes per second?] is that the download speed?

I was looking at documentaries online yesterday. One was an hour and a half and 2 were one hours but the stats on the eircom page are the same as before this!?

How compressed the media files you are streaming are will
determine how much bandwidth you are using.

Install DU Meter on your PC and it'll give you an idea
of how much 1 hour of music or TV will use.

    At Broadcast TV quality (720x576) in MPEG2 = 4Mbps to 8Mbps peak
    MPEG 4 Broadcast 2Mbps to 4Mbps peak

"Real" 1920x1080i HD MPEG4 AVC H.264 = 10Mbps to 22Mbps peak. (Apple & MS HD downloads are only around DVD quality, not real HD at all, just HD in comparison to YouTube). 1080p doubles the bitrate at same quality, adds only temporal resolution not real vertical or horizontal (spatial) resolution, i.e. reduces single line sharp detail flicker.

DivX/XVid/MPEG4 1/4 VGA 320x240 or personal streaming quality about 256kbps
    YouTube / Webcam about 100kbps

Audio from 8kbps to 256kbps depending on quality and Codec.

Web Streaming audio normally poor quality 32Kbps.

Decent quality DAB and Satellite = 256kbps.

PMP 256kbps MP3 is higher quality than DAB or Satellite as they use MP2.
