FE1 Preparation Courses Griffith-v- Independent College

    Hi walrusgumble,

I have had experience with both Griffith and Independent colleges and from my personal experience, I would definitely recommend Independent colleges. I did and passed my first four with Griffith back in October 2007 and to be honest, it left quite bitter taste in my mouth. Homework being corrected was a huge issue for me and I still have not received homework since July 2007. To be fair, the situation in Griffith might have improved but I still would whole heartedly still recommend Independent colleges.

I did and passed my final 4 last sitting with Independent colleges (April 2008) and I am not recommending Independent colleges just because Homework was given back on time but I just found it to be way more personable than Griffith.

I really struggled with Constitutional and EU in the last sitting and it was nice that I could call Philip Burke on his mobile, talk to him about it and that he would try arrange for me to meet with both of the lecturers for an hour or so to go through what I did not understand, this is something I could not imagine Griffith doing.

I just think that with Independent colleges, they give you more support and even though I obviously up in the hard work to pass my last four myself, it was still nice to know that if I was struggling with anything, there was always help at hand.

Also I had Maura Kelly for Constitutional law, last sitting which I passed and I found her to be excellent. I really struggled with the subject but I think she had a great teaching approach, that really geared you towards the exam

    I hope that helpS:)

We had a different M.Kelly then - continually saying "just look that up yourselves" etc. That was for the April 2008 exams though...maybe got better. I stop attending those classes as did a few friends, and worked off the manual and then the exam was prickly! Article 45 (wasn't covered!) being the most annoying bit.

Griffith v's Independent? I dont think anyone can agree about the ans to that Q. Seems to me that the effect of Independent opening is that Griffith has lost some of its best lecturers. Then again I just heard that Independent was sold. Dont know when exactly but the result is that their letting a lot of their best people go, (though I'm pretty sure Val is there to stay). I wouldn't be surprised if they destroyed one another in the struggle. Ever since Independent opened it's given other people ideas. Loads of other courses have become available too and some of them are way cheaper the either Griffith or Independent. A friend of mine did Intensive Preparation seminars at CLC last year and she thought they were great. Saw the notes and I'm convinced. Their running in TCD this year. Shill! Three posts all across the boards saying the same thing in one day.

    Dear Griffith College...oh, i mean Ireland1-Italy0...

You're comments are disgraceful. It is a libelious man indeed that must reply with such outragious allegations as yours supra. It is disgraceful not alone to yourself, but to the others who are interested in this thread and having a (relatively) mature conversation.

And Johnny Utah, man...i'm sorry. I mean, how dare i think that you and I may actually engage equally; what, with my meagre 5 or 6 posts or whatever it is. I, much the same as "Jackthe" obviously didn't read the small print closely enough to see you have to have nothing better to do than post 100 times to cross the "listen to this guy" line. My bad...

Out of interest...would i be lambasted so much, Johnny, if I was in favour of Griffith College over Independent Colleges? No, i dare say i would not. If I were taking the line you were, i'd want commission...

Oh, and Johnny...if the above quote is what I were basing my decision on as to which college to 'invest' the considerable amount of money, time and effort in, i'd be worried...

No, i wont run with the college with the better team, i'll go where they give me free parking...hum...Best of luck with that one pal...

    Cheers.

Funny to see ireland1italy0 post a shill cos he:
    • spends an awful lot of time defending griffith (seeminly having attended the course in dublin and cork),
    • uses the name Brian Foley surprisingly often and even quote his articles - a bit of a fan eh!!!; and
    • has an unusually indepth knowledge of constitutional principles for someone who claims to be a struggling FE1 student - (see post re bugging).

And Im not the first one to notice it. See quoted text. SHILL!

Ah here now! That's a bit selective of an attack...I've said X good about GCD and I've said Y good about Independent and I'm interested in constitutional law and crime? Equally, I've posted about youtube...who does that make me? Or that I said before

"Oh jeez…sorry, no what I meant (no disrespect) was that Independent being over my two favourite coffee shops in Dublin (Lemon and Café Sol) was a plus factor in my view!"

or that I took the side of those defending the indep property lecturer?

And Tom Young moderator referred to the same article or a similar one http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055166666&highlight=brian+foley

Who does that make him? And re the bugging...I read the f'n bill...

I cant believe this bothers me as much as it does, but it does. What was said above:-

" * has an unusually indepth knowledge of constitutional principles for someone who claims to be a struggling FE1 student - (see post re bugging)."

    My post on bugging:-

"Can't get the bugging permission if the surveillance relates to matters likely to be privileged. Lawyer's need not worry; s.5(4).

    Could change though."

Yeah..."in depth" constitutional principles are whats involved in reading a bill and referring to the section.

This shouldn't get to me like it is...but being accused of what is effectively fraud is upsetting.

I am not sure what relevance citing me or the academic article and author I did on this thread.

Should we just delete this entire thread?
