A friend of mine was telling me about a game called America's Army and I've just been glancing into it with interest as it's designed by the US army.

What I want to know is: is it actually realistic and designed as to give people an idea of how the US army works or is it just hoping people will go "WOW, the american army must be just like the game. I'm so joining!"

    Any feedback appreciated.

i tried it once for the crack, aside from forcing you to do an obstacle corse and firing range then getting you to do tests before you can play, i did not find it realistic, and im not saying that was realistic. also pretty boring i think

if you want to get a realistic military simulator Virtual battle station is the most advanced, if ytou cant afford that you can get more dumbed down versions like operation flashpoint or Arma which are good games and pretty realistic

Not having been in war I can't comment on how well it mirrors a real life battle. However, I found it to be a very linear and frustrating game. You don't get a second life in this game, so if you get killed in the first few minutes you have to sit out the rest of the game. I also seem to remember that servers don't alter the maps - just the same map ad nauseum. As Bam Bam said, there is a reason it is free.

Yup buts its not to everyones taste. Arma aint perfect in fact its miles away from being perfect you think BF2 is bad with patches check out Arma's nearly 1 Gb patches that do sweet f**k all. Game is so easily hacked its embarrassing and 8/10 server's use Bezerk maps which are basically a BF2 styled map it defeats the purpose of the game.

The controls are chunky and they take a while to get used to. Very frustrating game .

BUT if you find good people to play with [I was involved in this tournament with 40 vs 40 matches] and decent maps its fairly good game if a bit time consuming.

I played AA for a while, its a good game, tis quite realistic, obviously not graphically anymore, but the terminology, physics (as in how fast you run, how far you can throw), guns and gameplay are all great. Its probably the best free FPS you'll find.

It is aging though tbh, but last I looked there were still about 2 thousand servers iirc.
