What do people generally think of Betfair?

I personally think it has it's ups and downs but generally I think it is very good. I'm mostly a Horse Racing, Football and Golf betting person.

I find the golf odds especially on 66/1 (as there plenty winners on that price or more) or more to be very good. Few weeks ago Jerry Kelly was 100/1 best price in bookies but 220/1 on betfair about 208/1 after commission but still over odds. Even tough did not win there is great value to be found.

Odds on football matches generally seem to be much better. Horse racing the same.

    Your taughts are welcome.

I think it's generally accepted on here that Betfar is best for prices (obviously not always but that's why we shop around). Having said that I stick with the traditional cash over counter bets. Check odds on internet night before and whoever's offering me the best price gets my business the following day.

Would like to start using Betfair but just don't trust myself gamblingon a credit card. If I don't have the cash I don't do the bet.

I am the same but have to admit I have used it on occasions but use my Laser all the time now!

Betfair has so much going on sometimes it is hard to take it all in but once you get the hang of all the features it is a great site

My recent trip to a Betfair Demo night really taught me a lot of things

Betfair is the first place anyone should sign up with.

As for those talking about betting off credit cards and lasers, what you can do is sign up and make a deposit at moneybookers. This will allow you to use a fixed bank for gambling and just about all the bookies accept it so you can deposit and withdraw from whichever one has the best odds.

I cant trust myself on betfair, I usually end up deciding that its a waste having the money sitting in the account when I could be laying heavy odds on shots or trying to guarantee myself profit on stupid markets.
It was great for the world cup as I was able to back Argentina Italy and Brazil for months before hand while laying Germany and England at the same time. If I ever manage to find some discipline itll be the only site I punt on.

I like BF but rarely use it for golf, even though it is my favourite punt. Often I find that I can get better prices with another bookie for players at the top of the market. While it is possible to get a good price for outsiders on the outright markets it's very difficult to get an good place price. Also place is only top 5 and you can e/w top 6 in some bookies.

Also if it was truly an efficient market I never understand why BF doesn't always offer the best prices. At the time of writing this one of the bets I want to do at the weekend is W Ham to beat Chelsea. I can get 4/1 with Paddy Power/Skybet but only 3.8 before commission on BF (so effectively 3.6). Go figure.

If you frequently spot things like this why don’t you do some arbing! You probably need a big enough bank but its free money…

The difference between 3.8 and 4.0 is exactly 5% which is the commission rate I am charged so unfortunately there isn't any free money to be had.

Free €10 bet for any members on betfair until midnight on Sunday night. Apparently it's a special leap year-day offer and it can be used on any market. Just got an email about it. Happy days!

For me it's a no brainer - Betfair SP has been beating traditional SP in over 80% of races. If anyone here is serious about gambling, you should be taking the higher prices when available. It's not always higher mind you, and I regularly use bookies on horses priced 5/4 or lower instead, but why people take a lower price on something when a better one is available is a complete mystery to me.

did anyone else get this?? betfair are telling me (after i emailed) that no such offer exists.

    Regarding BF free bet.

I was rung by them last week and given a €20 free bet on an account I hadn't used in a year. Might have been an effort to generate new interest in old accounts?

I remember last year for the Cheltenhem festival that if you had 10 Euro matched bet or more you get 10 free into your account I think that was every day too (Maybe 5 euro one day but sure it was 10 euro)

Lets hope they do same this year;)

This happened to me about 2 months ago, had to answer a small phone survey, told me there would be a free £10 in my account to use within 24 hours....I forgot.... doh!

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,369 ✭✭✭UnitedIrishman

Yeah I was rang there on Tuesday. I had no money in my bank account so I couldn't do it.. the worst thing was he was discussing the United match with me and had convinced me to do Ronaldo to score first and United to win 1-0 at 22/1... I nearly cried after the game!

I find they're sound enough and it's all very easy to get used to. The only annoyance is when ya get a free fund in the casino, you can't withdraw any money you make until you bet up to a certain amount.

The casino is a dead loss on bf,you never win!

I've won quite a bit on there on roulette. Knowing when to quit is the main thing.
