Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Fantastic band. Only discovered them just over a year ago due to their Best Of. Self Titled and Tyranny And Mutation are damn good albums, but I'd recommend the best of to anyone who is new to them

Been some time since they were good IMO, but some excellent albums, especially the earlier stuff, and some great titles ala "Joan Crawford's Risen From the Grave". Tourdates here.

(Don't Fear) The Reaper was one of the first songs I learned to properly play on guitar! I'd love to see 'em live.

Don't get me started on these boys :D
"the thinking man's heavy metal band"
Great band and Buck Dharma is (I'm tryin' to hold back the flood of superlatives here and make this sound reasonable) IMHO simply the best rock guitarist around.
While he was good back in the '70s, he has continued to grow as a musician and is even better now. Tone, emotion, technical mastery, melody - he rocks!

If you remember them from way back and want to catch up on what they are like now have a look at their live 2002 DVD "A Long Day's Night". Basically the lasers and crypto-fascist-bikers-from-an-alternative-world image is gone and they just play their songs with vigour and commitment. Their more recent albums are also a return to form with some of Buck's best ever studio guitar work and some truly classic songs.

IMHO if these guys were a bit more photogenic and ambitious they could have been the biggest band in the world. (and maybe a bit less committed to being willfully odd)

FYI - this is not any kind of "reform and cash-in" tour, they have been playing 100 + dates a year every year since their formation.

I saw them in NYC in 1978 (great AFAICR) and in London in 2004 and 2006. Great both times although Allen was MIA for the 2006 show. I still hope they will add some UK dates for this tour. If not its off to Holland for me!
Hashish, Hookers, Heiniken - it'll be (Hot Rails to) Hell :D

It has pride of place in my LP collection.

I also have a 'live' concert video somewhere in the attic. It must have been recorded in the late 1970s as Jimmy Carter was US president and subject of a bit of a rant during the concert.

BOC are joined on-stage by Tommy Skriver, the world famous virtuoso of the cowbell... (a.k.a. A Roadie :p)
I think you need that stinkin' QuicklimeTime to see this.

Just after sticking some of their stuff onto my ipod. Love them! Favourites are Astronomy, Don't Fear The Reaper and Burnin for You. Class!

You know, they were probably one of the first bands I got into. I remember picking up a twin pack of Cult Classic and Heaven Forbid for £10 back in the day, and listening to 'em non stop.

Haven't listened to them as much now, but they're still a significant band for me.

Excellent choices. May I also recommend the live version of "Last Days of May" from the On Your Feet Or On Your Knees album (or any version)?
Actually they have a huge number of really great songs but ***Warning*** IMHO they have been very badly served by their "Best of..."-type compilations. Most of them seem to have been thrown together by record company hacks who have no idea what BOC are about.
Also if you get any of their remastered CDs, the extra songs, with one or two exceptions are ... well, you can see why they didn't get on the album in the first place.
Another live album "Some Enchanted Evening" has recently been remastered and this time they did a great job. Now its the double album it was always planned as and also includes a DVD of them live in 1978 doing the crossed guitars etc.

If I was only ever going to buy one BOC album it would be "Secret Treaties" - they still play almost every song from it live.
